Thanks for all the info! Busy last night at work, but I got home today and had about a 2 days worth going. I tried the tabac I got in the mail and it is awesome. It's still doesn't perform like B&M but it is better than D R Harris IMHO. The scent is pretty great and it actually matches well with my Windsor aftershave so I am very very happy.

try adding some water to the top of the pucks of soaps you're having trouble with for a few minutes before using them...that helps to soften them up and make them easier to lather.

That's a great tip and one that is habit for me, regardless of soap (except of the softest). Teaspoon or so on top while I am in the shower and my brush is soaking. Ready to load and lather when I get out.

I do that habitually as well. I like the way it really brings out the scent and it really makes loading with a soft brush on hard soap easier. That is what actually made the Harris soap do well for me. That, and learning how much to load and how much water to use. Now I feel pretty confident with my lather technique. I get fairly consistent results now. I got my samples in. First impression of the strop shoppe black tie is weak scent. Smells pretty good, but weak. Cella smells okay, I've always heard it's a good performer. Tabac is probably going to be my new favorite, but I'm eager to try Valobra and CRSW as well. Thanks for all the input guys. Side note, I tried the Personna Lab Blue again today and got an excellent shave with tabac. I think I may have put them off too soon before. It's amazing too me how many variables go into DE shaving and how so many similar products can have such a drastic variation in results. I think I'm going to write a short simple starting tips post. A few things that I wish I wish I would've been told right off instead of having to experiment and dig for info.

I think I'm going to write a short simple starting tips post. A few things that I wish I wish I would've been told right off instead of having to experiment and dig for info.

Definitely. Use more product,load aggressively. Like you hate it as The Stallion says.

Use a product more than once if you don't get the results you want. Everyone has a bad day.

If your razor is tugging and you're using a sharp blade like a Feather, it's probably not the razor. Your lather is dry.

Thick creamy lather doesn't necessarily mean properly hydrated. Add more water. If it runs off you're face, you may have gone too far, otherwise rock out.

Just a few things I have noticed.
