What do you mean by you hope history doesn't repeat itself in regards to Chypre?

there were a lot of liberties taken with the name "fougere". when i was super heavy into fragrances, i always liked fougeres and the familial feel between them all. soapmakers over the last year - year and a half pushed through the boundaries and made all sorts of things that weren't fougeres in the classic/traditional sense but still called them that.

very much so! the citrus and oakmoss on the top are just a knockout. i didn't really sniff around past that, though, i must admit. i was too busy thinking about the performance and what a great improvement over the already excellent white label base it really is.

Thanks for the video, I watched the first 10 minutes and caught most of your thoughts on the performance which was a relief. I wasn't aware the formula had changed although I have enough supply not to worry.

I, for one, would be very interested in hearing more of your thoughts on the scent. I hear what you mean about the watering down of what fougere means in the wet shaving community. However, I'm not familiar with Chypre so to say it's spot on doesn't help me much. I always look forward to Will's own description, had he published this yet?

I read Chypre can be floral and I see you have a penchant for floral, would you recommend this to someone who generally dislikes floral scents (ie I found Rhapsody too floral and it wasn't over the top by any means)? If it was more Citrus, leather, and wood this would be a very intriguing scent to me.

OK, I did some searching and can see from Will:

Lime, bergamot, oakmoss, labdanum, Mousse de Chyprée (we recreated another vintage base!), patchouli, peach skin, rose, frankincense, cedar, and musk.

Rich, fruity, and floral, with an intense citrus note and our recreation of the storied DeLaire Mousse de Chyprée base, Le Grand Chypre is a scent for the refined sartorialist.

I'm guessing this ones not for me. Back to the dark with Hallows and Leviathan I go...

I really like the performance of  Le Grand Chypre , kind of spoiled me for ordering the old formula again. Like the scent but its still evolving especially when lathered. No irritation issues so far.
