I was thinking of adding a little essential oil to my MWF tonight for my shave. I love MWF but I do like my soaps to have a strong scent , so that's the only thing I feel it lacks. I'm going to stick a couple of drops of bergamot and neroli (eo) and see how it turns out. Since the puck has dried a little bit there are fairly deep gouges appearing on the surface of the puck so that might help it take.
I was wondering if anyone else has tried this and if so what you thought of the "improvement".
Thanks

I love the Fat also, but I also like the scent (as mild as it is).

However your idea is interesting, so I'm going to follow your thread and see what I learn. Bergamot and Neroli together make for a wonderful scent.

I'm actually just finished my shave and to be honest I was a bit crude with the measurements of essential oils I added. It smelled a touch synthetic and as much as the original scent of MWF doesn't blow my socks off I think I prefer it. It's a fairly inoffensive creamy milky smell which I suppose isn't too bad. It still provides that remarkable post shave face feel I'm enjoying right now as I sit at my keyboard.
Maybe if I was a tad more conscientious with the addition of the essential oils I may find that perfect balance but for now I'm happy to stick to the original scent after it wears off. Until I get bored that is!

LOL, "a bit crude" is the phrase of the day. (The difference between when I mix the drinks and and when my wife mixes the drinks).

I'm wondering if the scent may soften as it airs, or oxidizes. In which case, the scented MWF may end up being where you want it.

I'm certainly not a soap maker, but have read that adding scent oils to a soap are more complex than my mental scheme which would be ( 2 + 1 + 3 = 6). If I understand correctly, the saponified oils plus the extra fats in the soap may absorb or interact with essential oils and fragrance oils creating unique scents that are different than each component individually.

Interesting Bob , I had a sniff off it tonight when I got back from work and it just smells like plain old MWF but we'll see upon lathering again if it's made any lasting scent change. It wouldn't be a disaster because either way the two scents were still fairly subtle anyway. Thanks

I have used Lavender scented EO on the fat a few times, adding 2-4 drops a few minutes prior to soaking the puck. The scent was faint and only lasted through one lathering each time I tried it.
I think the oil would have to be added to the during the soap making process in order for it to stick around.

Or during a melting down of the soap but I'm actually glad it's not lasted more than a lather anyway.

I felt the same and was happy to have the original scent back after experimenting.
