Decided on some prog rock for this evening: Olias of Sunhillow by Jon Anderson (of Yes). Kinda trippy! Amazing album art.

Indeed. Looks like Roger Dean's work, which appeared on many of Yes' and some of Osibisa's albums.

Dean would have been the logical choice, but apparently he was unable to commit to the project, so Anderson went with David Fairbrother-Roe. For some reason, I always thought it was a Hipgnosis design - maybe because of the work they did for Yes.

EDIT: It seems that I was not wrong. DFR must have been associated with Hipgnosis since this is listed as one of their projects on Wikipedia.

Jay Black, lead singer of Jay and the Americans, passed away about three weeks ago.  This classic from 1965 was amazing then and, to me, it's still amazing.  I'm just trying to figure out where 56 years went. Confused

It's amazing how a small pebble can make a big ripple if you drop it in the right pond.  Jay was a home boy for me, since we grew up in about the same place at about the same time (the Big Apple, post WW II/Doo-Wop). Jay had a powerful and versatile voice - outstanding falsetto, effective phrasing, some Latin treatments, and even hints of Italian bel canto.  I remember dropping coins in a juke box, late at night, in diners lit by neon lights, and then driving east into the not yet spoiled reaches of Long Island.  Dark, no-questions-asked motels were cheap and easy to find back then, and you could do things that were more forbidden then than they are today.

Thanks for the memories Freddy.   They say you can't go back, but that's not 100% entirely true.

Yes, I was born and reared in Brooklyn.  While things are definitely different now than they were then, a song like this brings back a lot of memories. Happy2

Tonight seemed to be a good night for some Weather Report. Jaco was in splendid form on this album. Smile
