I just ordered one of these.  Any thoughts? Those of you with this razor what are your impressions?  Currently I'd say the most aggressive razor I have in my den is a fattip piccolo which, I get good shaves with. I decided to go with the gold color variant to glean in the den.

Not much to say. It is what everyone says it is. I like mine a little better on my heavier MR3 handle. Other than that, short strokes and very light pressure and you should be fine.

I'm wondering is it that much more aggressive than a fattitp piccolo it is if any, because that is a razor that I get great shaves with and generally in the community is one that people deem leans on the very aggressive side.

I've never used a Fatip, but I have heard that the R41 is more aggressive, though I don't think it's by much if you're talking about the 2013 model of the R41. I think the big difference will be the angles you can use. A much steeper angle is possible with the R41, and many of us have found we enjoy using it that way.

I have 3 of them. Two '11 R41s and one '13. The '13 might be a hair less aggressive, but not wildly different. They are my only modern razors and I have 3 of them; that should tell you something. Oh, and I have exactly 3 models of DE razors in my cabinet for use, 2 of them are R41s, the others are pre-'21 Gillette single rings, one in nickel the other in silver.

Just treat them with the respect that they deserve. No complacency or daydreaming, give it a chance to bite and it will.

I disliked the stock handle a great deal. IMO it's made for looks but not for use. I always felt as though the razor was going to slip out of my fingers and my shave suffered with those handles. I replaced both of the stock handles on mine with common sense stainless steel UFO handles and those handles really made them perfect.

Please let us know how you like it when it comes in and after you've had time to use it . They're definitely not for everyone. Good luck with it! They give great and fantastically close shaves.

I recently sold my R41 with the stand. I have used a Fatip Grande before and there wasn't that much between them as far as "aggression" is concerned. The Muhle is streets ahead of the Fatip in build quality and finish as far as I was concerned. I don't think you will have any issues with it since you have experience with a similar style oc razor like the Fatip. I too liked to put the head on my MR8 or my Ikon bulldog handle. The R41 was my 2nd de razor afer my EJ De89 and I loved it but as my buying continued I found myself using it less and less and when you do that sometimes your shaves aren't consistent and I eventully sold her.  Sad Enjoy!

I personally didn't like the R41. I got great shaves from it, just not comfortable shaves. No matter what blade I tried in it, it was just rough. Hope the R41 works out for you, if not try the iKon Shavecraft Tech. It's still very aggressive, but a much more comfortable shaving experience for me.

I had the same experiences with the R41, great bbs result with 2 passes every time but it wasn't comfortable and the enjoyment factor was to get through it without irritation or cuts. It always got me where I wanted to go but it was rarely a comfortable/enjoyable shave.
