Mozingo Brushworks

Brett Mozingo is no stranger to most of us. He has been turning out some incredible handles for a couple of years. In recent months, he has taken to tying knots. As far as I know, this makes him one of three American craftsmen tying knots, joining Aldo at Varlet and Scott at Declaration Grooming.

I am glad to see Brett branch out and become somewhat independent. There is always room for more American made options for knot tying as it's great for the consumer.

The ZT1s have come and gone. Now, there is ZT2 hair available and there has been very little chatter about the performance of the brush. I'm hoping that changes because I'd like to hear from some of "brush guys" and maybe get Mozingo some press so to speak.

I was fortunate enough to score a custom ZT1 a month or so ago. I am far from a brush guy but I appreciate playing with them.

I also got lucky and picked up a ZT2 with yesterday's drop and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival.  I snagged the 28mm Opal in the pedestal shape, same as my ZT1.

I've held a bunch of brushes from various makers and I think Brett's finish work is on par with Paladin who I considered the best.

Anyway, hopefully this thread can be a place to discuss Mozingo Brushworks and see what the future holds for a fellow North Carolinian.

Here is my custom ZT1. I told Brett I wanted a candy apple with silver, a hint of graphite, and some sparkles. He crushed it.

I was super interested to see what the ZT2 brushes would look like. None of the handles really jumped out at me, but I was definitely a little put off that nearly every brush pictured was super asymmetrical. I don't mean that something wasn't *exactly* perfect, but rather every brush was completely lopsided or wavy or dipped in odd spots. Hell, one of the pictures showcases a stray hair that I wasn't sure how it got missed.

Stunning brush you’ve got there, sir. And like many of Brett’s handles, I bet pictures still don’t do it full justice.

I’ve been a fan of Mozingo handles for a couple years now and always look forward to his drops. Not all of his shapes appeal to my personal aesthetic but it’s cool that at some point he’s probably made a brush that would appeal to almost anybody.

I’ve got a 28mm matte white handle in ZT1 that is probably the most dense of anything I own and also currently my favorite brush. I also managed to snag a 26mm ZT2 in yesterday’s drop that I’m looking forward to receiving.

He also offers knotting service which is something I’ll definitely be doing for some handles that have been needing knots.

That’s a beautiful Brush LOOT, and great idea for a thread! I have several Mozingo Handles that I love, and I was lucky enough to snag a 28mm ZT1 that is all Mozingo. I also purchased a ZT2 28mm Knotting service during Brett’s Drop the other day to have placed in an existing Mozingo Handle that I had sitting. I’ve been really impressed with Brett’s work turning Handles, they are easily some of the nicest I’ve owned. I’m very excited that Brett has started tying his own Knots, my ZT1 Knot does not disappoint. The Knot seems to be very well made and has been great in use. It’s very dense, has super soft tips that are ‘crunchy’ when dry, and is very well shaped with zero glue bump. I’m looking forward to comparing the ZT1 with my new ZT2. Here are a few pics of my prized ‘Opal’ ZT1-

I'm well aware of how a lathe works. I was referring to the profile of the hair. Unless a lathe is somehow involved in the tying process?
