We shavers like fiddling with the details in the hope of streamlining or refining our experience. Here's a tiny suggestion that may help make our interaction with one another a little less cluttered.

I've noticed that each time we edit a post, notification of our changes is added to the top of our posting like this:

(This post was last modified: Less than 1 minute ago by Bouki.)

Would it be possible to move this information to the bottom of our comments, where it would still serve its purpose without distracting from the our main message? It may also be nice to set it in smaller type and in a shade of gray to give readers another clue that it's not really part of the poster's comment, like this:

not a bad suggestion!

I'll talk to our themer to see how big of a change this is and if it's doable.

It’s good to see suggestions like this. Sometimes we get so used to things being how they are, that we don’t realize there could be (often subtle) ways to make them even better. Smile

This is a great idea. Mostly it's little things like spelling or a misplaced/forgotten word. When I see it up top I feel like it's the first thing we all see.

Making a great forum even better. Smile

Moving it to the bottom is hard as there isn't actually a fixed bottom, while there is a fixed top. I could move it under the post comments, but l can't guarantee bottom, depending on post length it might end up in the middle of the post area and look rather strange. Smaller less obvious text I can do next time andrewjs18 clears the cache.

Thanks for looking into this, leefish! Since pushing the "last-edited line" to the bottom of the comment box sounds troublesome, could it go up into the grey frame next to the comment number? Right now, the timestamp of the original version of the comment appears there. Is it possible to replace that by the last-edited time, or could both time stamps somehow be joined together?

Cheers!

Small update, I have changed the size of the notice for now and that helps I think. I will test my final idea this Sunday. I have a full time job and so really only have the weekends for these edits.

Thank you, leefish! It's very generous of you to tinker with this in your free time. The smaller size is a vast improvement, and I'm looking forward to seeing your final ideas.
