I use both. I keep raw data in a spreadsheet and then import into Airtable, which offers database functionality. I don't really recommend that platform given cost vs value. I just happen to have the service for other reasons and it offers some conveniences for reporting and scripting/automation of SOTD post details. I will probably move my data over to a local mongoDB instance. Spreadsheets can get a lot done with pivot tables and basic lookups, but I prefer the power of a conventional database query for gathering more complex usage statistics.
