Well, it's that time of year again. You know, the time to create PivotCharts for your spreadsheet shave journal
I have to admit that this past year was an atypical year. Three and a half months worth of shaves were completed with one setup due to the house remodel. Over the past 6 weeks, there have been 24 "no shave" days due to a vacation and a surgery. The overall numbers were skewed due to the 3.5-month setup which included the Rockwell 6S and the Karve Overlander (the Overlander was used slightly more than the 6S during this period), MdC Fougere soap, DS Cosmetics w/ 28mm SynBad knot, and Wholly Kaw Fougere Bouquet and Padre Leon splashes.
The following represents the most used gear excluding the period between late Feb and mid June:
Aftershave Brand: Chatillon Lux (i truly love the base and the scents...I really wish he would do a seasonal release of any scent just so i don't run out)
Aftershave Scent: Black Tie Razor Co - Sandalwood (thanks again Dom for a fantastic recreation of AoS Sandalwood!)
Brush: Wild West Brushworks - 26mm brown synthetic knot (not a big surprise on this one, the knot has become my favorite synthetic knot so this and one other handle with the same knot have been used most often in the past year)
Razor: Once again, the Rockwell 6S (specifically with plate 4) overwhelmingly was the top spot for 2022. The Karve Overlander was a new addition to the den this year but it was still used approximately half as much as the 6S. Overall, 21 different razors were used this year. A Gillette Speedster came in 3rd with only 8 uses for the year. The remaining 18 razors that were each used less than 4 times and one of those razors was a pass-around.
Soap Brand: it's a tie! Both Saponificio Varesino and Stirling were used 14 times. Coming in at a close 2nd was Ethos Grooming (13) followed by another tie between Black Tie Razor Co and Eufros (9). The number of uses/brand really doesn't like much but 48 different brands were used throughout the year
Soap Scent: Grooming Department Verbrannt with 10 uses. The higher number of uses on this one was because I committed to finishing the soap prior to our remodel. The next highest used soap scent goes to Black Tie Razor Co Sandalwood with 9 uses.
Discovery of the Year: this may make some cringe but I discovered the overall joy/satisfaction of minimalism this year. Obviously, I still enjoy variety but my recent Den Cleanout has relegated the majority of my soaps/splashes to the basement. I also want to give an Honorable Mention to Encre Noir. I've never been into colognes but a post by Bouki on this scent resulted in a purchase. It turned out to be a purchase that i can't be more happier about...what an amazingly good scent!
Goals for 2023: I'm going to do my best to keep the majority of the software stowed away this year. Next year's list should be very easy to compile with only a limited number of gear being used. The software figures should start to match the number of uses I generally see with the Rockwell 6S.
What was some (or all) of your most used gear for 2021? Did any gear takeover as a "top spot"? Any goals other than those participating in the DFR thread?
