Mongoose B2

For those with both the OneBlade and the Mongoose, which do you prefer? I have a OneBlade coming in the mail soon and I will try it for the first time on Wednesday.

I'm not sure how you could improve on the Mongoose or Alumigoose.  I love the Alumigoose so much I bought two.

Sorry to jump in, Neo. Hopefully the next person can answer your question – I don’t have a OneBlade. Not yet, at least.  

I just wanted to echo what others have said. I have the Mongoose Stainless Steel (satin B3, head only), and with a handle like the iKon OSS (a great handle in and of itself), the thing is just too heavy and unwieldy. However, it’s been marvelous with a smaller handle, and I just got a Hempel titanium, which I think will be the ultimate handle for the SS.

My Mongoose AlumiGoose 2 may be based on the same design as the original Mongoose, but it’s quite a different animal. (As one is very heavy, the other extremely light.) I’ve tried that one with a couple of different handles, but the stock handle — in all its lightness — seems to be an ideal fit.

The stainless steel B3 is my favorite of all the razors I have tried, and the AlumiGoose 2 is right next to it. Maybe there’s a perfect DE out there, but I haven’t found it. On the other hand, the Mongoose SEs consistently provide me with wonderful, completely trouble-free shaves.

I have Alumigoose2 and Oneblade.
Oneblade I like a lot more. Oneblade I like even more than Wolfman Ti and BBS-1. But we must take into consideration that I am a new in wet shaving and I do not have enough techniqe.

NeoXerxes I feel the OneBlade is more maneuverable than the Goose.  The OneBlade is easier to use and you can be a bit more careless if you are in a hurry.

The Goose is a great razor, but I have always find it a bit more difficult to use.  But, I believe this is because the size of my face.  I don't have a huge or fat face, so the real estate is smaller for such a large and bulky head.  I still use it because it offers a great shave, but only when I can take my time.

My polished B2 really started to shine when I mated it with a lighter (Hempel Ti) handle.

Honestly for me they each have their positives and negatives. Neither razor is a traditional style razor. I really like the OneBlade and am keeping mine. It does a great job. I am still less than thrilled with the way a blade is loaded and by the pivot head. That said, it delivers a really smooth shave once you get used to it. The Mongoose uses the AC blades so it is much wider than your average DE or SE. With the B2 and a light handle I find it very maneuverable and I've not even had so much as a nick with this combo.

I have the Mongoose from the first batch.

Shaving wise, the performance is excellent and I always had excellent results.

The only vice is that in my experience, aligning the blade properly is actually quite tricky. It takes me a few tries before it is perfect, usually after I screw on the handle the blade will not be parallel with the safety bar.

I believe this issue was solved in the next batches as they made the tabs alot longer to help with the alignment.

I have the ATT SE preordred, I'm looking forward to that.

I never tried the OneBlade, but I see Maggards and Connaught shaving carries the blades for it.

I still use it because it offers a great shave, but only when I can take my time.

Although the Mongoose has a wider blade than DE razors, shaving with it does seem to take a bit longer. Part of that must be the more frequent need to rinse, since you can’t just flip the razor head around. But I don’t really mind — wet shaving in a hurry often results in some kind of subpar experience, anyway.

Neither the Mongoose Stainless Steel nor the AlumiGoose 2 has ever nicked me. With DEs I often have a little redness in the neck area, but that does not happen when I use my SEs (including my Gems). I do have a couple of DEs I enjoy; it’s nice to have options, and these days it seems there are new options in the wet shaving world just about every week.

Good lord, I just ordered an alumigoose from Maggard. What have you people done to me?
