I just purchased some extremely rare, vintage Penhaligon's Racquets Formula shaving cream on eBay (once again demonstrating that timing is everything), and as of today it is in transit via UPS. However, I am going to be out of town on the UPS projected delivery date, and if it was left outside my apartment door it no doubt would be stolen. So I telephoned UPS and was told that it would cost me $11.99 to change the delivery date. Eventually I was told that I could change the date on their web site, but it still cost me $9.99.

Maybe I just don't understand business or economics, but it seems ridiculous to me that I had to pay that $9.99 charge for their computer system to use less than 5 seconds of its time and change the date for me. To this grumpy old man, that seems like robbery.

That's CRAZY John, if they were delayed in delivering due to whatever they wouldn't pay anything to you for changing their delivery date. Extra charges for everything anymore........

Strange, I have a free online account with UPS. I put the tracking in, click more info and there is a button for reschedule delivery. Have done it completely free several times. They probably didn't want to tell you so they get compensated for the time the phone call takes. Or something else...  Undecided

Come to think about it, I've seen that option but never used it so no idea if there's a charge. I will say I ordered Green Coffee Beans to roast from CBC in Mississippi on the 13th and the 10 pound bag was just delivered now on the 15th. WOW, that's fast !

Get ready for ala carte' charges for anything beyond skeletal/basic products and services.

BMW is testing subscription charges for heated seats (that are already installed in the purchased car). $18/month. Just count the devices in your car which could be switched on/off by the manufacturer!

I have their free MyChoice account, but it will not let me change the delivery date for free. I would have to upgrade to a Premium account for $19.99. Their web site won't even let me change my account residence address to my current one from the one where I lived until 6 years ago, and one of their telephone representatives said they could not do it for me either. I have sent a letter today to their EVP/President US and their CEO complaining about the lousy service.

Now, of course, I have discovered that I have a SECOND package coming - this one from the Razor Company - while I am out of town, so there's ANOTHER $9.99 charge on my credit card. Fraud.

UPS is the one I notice milking everything. They are the only carrier that leaves packages at the end of my driveway... everyone else brings it to my door, even USPS.

Agree that it’s just another money grab. Can you get a neighbor to pick it up for you?

Say what!?  That's like rubbing salt in the wound.  BTW you wouldn't happen to know how much they charge for installing a port, so they can skip the BS and just suck all the blood out of you?
