Merkur 34c HD - Just a beginners razor?

Well you all convinced me gents. I decided to get it so it should be arriving any day now. Also decided to throw in Barrister & Mann's Latha Oceana for the sake of it, heard that its scent is very nice

Thanks to this thread I broke mine out- hadn't used it in a while but it did not disappoint. Look forward to your thoughts on the razor and the soap!

Now that is a good looking 34C Kevin!

I started with a 34C and used it for months before feeling the itch to try something else, then something else, then... You get the point. When I eventually came back to the 34C, I found that my shaves were much better than they had been. I'm not sure that the 34C was a good beginners razor for me, as my shaves with the 34C improved quite noticeably with more experience and better technique. The Muhle R89 would've been a better starting razor for me. I had a few rough shaves with the 34C early on, and I don't think that would've happened with the R89.

But what I really wish I'd started with is the Merkur Progress. This is a razor I would happily use for the rest of my days.

My exact story but the ATT S1 for me. I did just buy a red tip on a b/s/t though. I just couldn't help it.

Thanks much Primo- it is a solid shaver and I do like the feel even though I forget and it doesn't get used much.

That's why I love these threads- great excuse to pull out some HW!

Got it today. Havn't shaved with it yet but my first immediate impression was how small it was. I had to do a double take. I knew it was a smaller razor, just not that small. After the initial shock and holding it in my hand, it seems like a very nice razor. Can't wait to use it!

How'd it go? I guess it is small if I think about it but I do enjoy shorter, bulldog style handles.

Easy to maneuver, etc.

It was good. After I got use to the shorter handle, it actually felt more solid in my hand. It was a very mild shaver, and I honestly got worried a little bit because I thought it would be too mild but after 3 passes, felt great.

I have used a wide variety of razors over the last 25 years of shaving, my go to razor is still the 34c HD!
