Had it happen making Glacial. I know exactly what he felt like and it is caused by excessive menthol. The FDA has more information on it, but the side effects include vertigo, dizziness, and even hallucinations I believe. That's for very, very high levels though. Anyway, long story short I'm not lazy about wearing my mask while making soap anymore.

Bingo! Almost scientific explanation. I assume he is just less tolerable, because of what I smell while making it and still alive Smile

Oh yeah. And very careful about changing gloves after using menthol and before doing anything like, say, wiping sweat from my eyes or going to the bathroom. Big Grin

Not as bad as forgetting to wash your hands first after chopping chiles, though.

Menthol causes vasodilation, which can be seen it in the resulting redness when applied to skin. It's typically minor, but the redness is from blood pooling in dilated vessels. The corresponding effect is a dip in BP. If his BP was already low or he was dehydrated (or both), it's possible that the amount of blood pooling (both internally and externally) dropped him low enough, fast enough that he felt faint.

FWIW, I'm not a doctor. I have fainted on occasion, though.

We are getting there... Soon there will be a labeling requirement "DO NOT SHAVE WITH LOW BLOOD PRESSURE" Big Grin

I can just hear Medicine Commercial Announcer Guy's voice: "Do not shave with Frosty's Permafrost if you have the following medical conditions..."

Made the mistake of taking a leak after some Habanero hot wings, I know exactly what you mean. Smile
