Would Island Man be one of the 5 on your list?

Haha. I don't have the shave soap, but I'm actually using the bath bar right now. It's a nice one, but I don't know if it would make my top 5 or not.

Much as I like the Stirling people, Island Man was disappointing

I really like the scent of Island Man. Unfortunately, it seems something in the shaving soap doesn't like me.

The bar soap is absolutely a must for summer months. I think it smells a bit better than its shave counterpart... Probably due to the strength of the scent (or of specific notes, in comparison?).

MdC is a great soap for me.  Theirs scents are not over powering and they are”honest Scents” in that they seem more natural.  Vetyver is my personal favorite.  Does it leave me drier? Yes, but how will I ever know because I hit my mug with some Shea butter post shave.

"Post shave" is a term we never hear from our non-hobbyist users. And at 200 grams, you're going to get a ton of shaves out of a jar.
Like a few other legacy names, Tabac (tallow), Proraso, MWF, etc. some simple recipes can go on and on for a long time. See the pattern here? I'd bet Frank Dragonsbeard would agree, we'd love to sell a nice fraction of what they do.
When you guys talk about "hype", there's plenty to go around without mentioning any names.

I like it too. Pretty much the arch-typical example of a barbershop scent. The MdC Rose and Vetyver soaps are the best scents for my taste, and I haven’t found anything else that comes close to them in delivering such a pure and simple but dark and earthy rendition of these scents. These are something special. The MdC Fougère is very popular too, with similar qualities.

The only MdC I didn’t particularly like is their Agrumes, which is too lemony for me. But it has its fans.

It's amazing how there is such differing opinion on a topic. But that is the beautiful thing about lifeSmile

I personally have tried and owned almost every artisan soap maker. I recommend NEVER doing a sample size as it's not enough. You have to use a soap for several days before you can even begin to judge it. Every time I swirl up MDC with my Manchurian badger brush it is like having a special experience. The soap provides top-notch slickness along with a perfectly scented base. I've never received a nick, cut, or burn when using MDC. The small list of ingredients on the label is personally a plus to me. I've had reactions to some artisan soaps, but never anything from MDC. I only shave using a vintage straight razor and would never part with MDC. In fact, it's on my "till death do me part" list Smile

Now, let me address the price point. As many have pointed out that MDC soap is very hard that you get a lot of soap for your money. You can get it shipped from England / Europe for around $48 (7OZ) including shipping. Compare that with many artisan soaps now asking a price in the high $20 (4OZ) range.

Oleo Bonaire is the same scent as Stirling Island Man. You could try it to see if that base is better on your skin. It’s a better performer too thanks to duck fat.
