I needed a cheap 24mm brush knot...

I jumped on a handle, as well, from Etsy (Terrafirma Soapery). It's a 26mm spalted Tamrind. This one is stabilized with a bluish green dyed resin. I have a 26mm knot ready for it.

I'm not a huge fan of wood brushes, as I'm worried about long-term upkeep. However, I figure push come to shove, I can probably use some furniture wax polish to protect it. Besides, I just wouldn't be me if I didn't change my mind on any given topic at least three times a day.

Hopefully it looks as nice in person.

Edit: Added some more of the shots from Etsy, including a mock-up with the knot I have for it.

I've been looking at some of their wooden handles, I remember seeing that one and really liking the look of it.
I'd be interested to see what you think of the finish when it arrives!

I posted it a few hours ago in my journal... here's the picture I took. The handle is wide and really dwarfs the knot, but it's lightweight. I'm happy with it overall, especially considering the price... I think they are quite reasonable compared to other Etsy vendors.

EDIT: One more picture I took, which may better show the 'girth' of this handle? Fwiw, the finish on it appears nice. One thing I noticed, but forgot to post: the base is a bit rounded. So it wobbles a bit when standing. Not enough to cause it to fall over. Just enough to make it a weeble (the kids toy from the 80s, I believe). Lol.

Looks great!

That is a great looking handle. I have a penchant for wooden handles and have found post shave a quick wipe down with a micro fiber rag does the trick.

In a perfect world it would have been a bit slimmer, but it being so light, makes that less of an issue.

Also the base... my guess is that it's common for wood brushes? I know Paul used to make his wood brushes with a slightly rounded base. I don't recall the reason, but it has to be something about wood handles? I did ask the vendor, just so I know. It stands fine, regardless, so definitely not a problem.

Douglas, i have wood handles from 3 makers. Chiseled Hound, Bob Quinn, and Vlad Ferdman. They all have various s shaped bottoms. I don't hang mine near or sit mine on the sink. I do keep them dry between shaves. But I will say the style of finish is different for all three. Vlad's brushes are sealed the best IMHO. High gloss sealed off from the elements at the highest level. Chiseled Hound has a more matt finish. They are impenetrable as well. Bob's have a glossy finish - not quite as robust as VF's.

I think Vlad uses the same chemical super glue is made of.

High gloss sealed off from the elements at the highest level. Chiseled Hound has a more matt finish. They are impenetrable as well. Bob's have a glossy finish - not quite as robust as VF's.

Ahh. I don't know if this is standard for them... But in this item description it says "Handmade shaving brush made of Spalted Tamarind enhanced with a blue-dyed stabilizer resin. Finished with CA glue and buffed to a high shine."

So it's stabilized with resin then coated in a buffed super glue finish. It looks beautiful and pretty high gloss to my eyes. Again, I don't know if all of his handles look this good, but I'm quite happy.

BTW, I don't think I posted it in my previous messages... this vendor was great. He was more than happy to have a long discussion with me about handles and answered all of my questions. If I read his storefront write-up right, he's one of us ... a tradition shaver. Just an FYI.

I just wanted to post a quick follow-up. I used the brush yesterday (posted it somewhere here). I didn't notice until last night, and I don't think you can't see it here, but there is a "reduction" in the polish at the very top of the brush. It's definitely got the CA on it, but maybe not as much? Also, it's not as highly polished. So, it's not as perfect as I originally thought.

I'm still quite happy with it, though. Just wanted to update this, in case anyone was considering shopping there based upon my review.
