Maggard's 2-Band Badger

So...I have a Rubberset brush at home that desperately needs a new knot. I've been searching all over for the right knot at the right price. I want to avoid synthetic...

Does anyone have experience with Maggard's 26mm 2-band Badger knots, either as a knot alone or set in a handle already? The price is right in there for my budget, but I don;t want to end up with a horrible shedder, or scritchy, scratchy garbage...

Unfortunately there are no reviews posted on Maggard's site for their badger knots, so I am turning to you fine folks here, hoping to get some insight on the quality of these knots. I know the synthetics offered by them are excellent, and inexpensive, but as I said...I'm really not interested in adding a synthetic knot to my rotation. Horse or badger is really where I'm at...

Seriously though, I used to feel the same way. And then I got the Tuxedo. I want to like my badgers and boars, but every time I break one out for variety, I'm slightly underwhelmed. It's funny how our preferences change over time. Now I rotate between the Tuxedo, Cashmere and Maggard black synthetic and my other brushes sit unused for the most part.

Sorry, I didn't mean to start your thread off dragging it away from what you're asking about. I hope someone can chime in with some info. I will say though that I've never been disappointed with any of Maggard's house brand products. They offer some great stuff at great prices. As I think about this more, I believe Ramjet picked up a Maggard badger for his brush restoration project. I wonder if he's put it together and used it yet?

My question is, are you sure you need a 26mm knot Chris?

Normally I wouldn't have used a new knot until I had washed it and let it dry several times. I was too excited to see how they felt so I ran the bigger one through the paces this morning. Last night I had silicone set it into a handle. It was a snug fit too.

The knot I got is excellent. It's not scratchy for me. It is scrubby. I thought about writing a review on it but really would rather see how it goes after more use. One shave in.

Didn't drop a single hair.

The cheap little card paper box is such a little thing but makes a huge impression on me. I've got dozens of knots in the last two years and sometimes they are just tossed into an envelope with a little plastic wrap. The postal service crushing them and then flattening them under a pile of Amazon Prime junk before I get them. Maggard used a little box and the knots weren't all jenky looking at all. The little attention to the details is nice. They're labeled and fairly clean.

The one I used so far is just as nice, if not nicer, than any other 2 band badger I have. There's a lot worse ones you could get and wait a lot longer time to receive all while paying more money for.

I have only used it once though. It might self destruct yet. I doubt it will though.

I recommend getting one.

BadDad, I'd say give it a whirl! a lot of stuff in 2017 is cheap enough where if we don't like what we get, we can either move it along or redo it with something we do like.

Chris I cannot help as I do not own one but I do own the Stirling Finest 24 bulb and I believe that you have the bulb and fan knot. I also picked up West Coast Shavings 24 and 26mm Silvertips. Right now I would rank them:

Stirling>WCS 24>WCS 26

If the Maggard Knot is similar to the Stirling would that be okay or are you looking for something different?

Could you compare those bakerbarber as I thought you had they Stirling Knot(s) as well?

My plan is to pick up a Stirling Finest Fan in the future. Both the WCS glue bumps are below the handle and they are floppier than Stirlings but they feel prickly which I don't like.

Sorry Chris I feel like I took over you OP with my own questions I guess I was just trying to narrow down if someone can comment on how they compare to Stirlings Knots for a baseline.

I would imagine Maggard's 2 band knots are nice but I haven't tried one. Personally I'd rather try Whipped Dog's High Mountain Badger 2 band first. I have the Silvertip from Whipped Dog and it's easily my favorite badger, even over the Thater I used to own.
