Scentsless Shaver
Oakland, ME
Good day to you all

I just received an email that Maggard Razors has their new slant head safety razor in stock and placed my order.  I know that several others here have expressed an interest in this inexpensive introduction to slant razors, so I made this thread for the discussion of the razor head and any thing else we can discuss regarding slants, especially for us folks new to slants. My thanks to you all in advance!

To kick it off, I have never shaved with a slant head razor, nor have I tried the Gillette Slide method, which I think is sort of a slant-style of shaving.  Any tips would be most welcome.  For example, from what I have read on this forum, when shaving with a slant head razor, one manipulates the razor just as you would with any other DE razor, is that correct?

That's good news about the Maggard slant being available.  Yes,  you will shave with the same strokes as always.

Imagine placing a regular DE razor under a sideburn preparing for a north-south stroke. Before beginning the downward stroke, angle the head of the razor 10 degrees or so and then shave straight down.  That's pretty much what's happening with a slant razor. It's just angled for you.

The Maggard slant bar head arrived a week ago, and I was finally able to shave with it today. I will admit to being apprehensive about shaving with it, as I have never used a slant before and only started DE shaving in November of last year. I was sure that if I wasn't "on top of my game" I would be looking like I dove head first into the picker bushes!

It went very well! Granted only one shave, but it was a good one for me, with no blood and no raw face feel. I will do a few more before deciding on this razor, but for now, I am pleased.

My Maggard Slant came in the mail yesterday; I got my first shave in with it tonight. It reminds me of a smoother version of the Ikon B1. A good DFS+ shave without any irritation.

The blade took a little adjustment to get it centered properly, but nothing serious at all. I really like the gunmetal grey that Maggard's uses. For the price they are asking, I think it is a great buy. Strongly recommend.

Got mine and had a few shaves with it. As the iKon slant it i based on the Mulcuto Needlepoint, although this slant has a smooth safetybar. It is a bit of an aggressive razor, in that it can, and will nick when you apply pressure during the shave. Don't do that and it's a very effective head that can give fun shaving. In that regard, its heritage comes through: the Mulcuto is a lot of fun shaving. Compared to the iKon slant (not the X3 but their Needlepointvariant) this one is more aggressive, but both are very effective razors. The iKon maybe a bit less fun but also better finished.
