Who else would like MacDuff’s to release another Bay Rum?  This one is an early version of the base, not sure which one but pretty decent. The bay rum scent is a generic blend. It’s ok but I’m thinking that  if MacDuff’s released a new bay rum Sean would be able to do something much more interesting. I say this because Sean’s scent creation skills have evolved significantly since this Bay Rum was released. 

I do have the labels for a new bay rum scent not sure exactly when I'll release it. But it's not going to be straight bayrum since I'll leave that to those who are much more versed in traditional wet shaving scents. It'll be bringing in some other notes so it's best to say "bay rum inspired". What season is a bay rum scent typically best suited for?

Labels are in production, likely only Alberta Boys will be released. I have to trial the scents in the new format as there is no hiding any flaws in the scent anymore, and special attention will be paid to how the dry down behaves. 

Also Trail Tobacco was reformulated with the batch I just made, and the eventual EdP will reflect this. Unfortunately the main scent ingredient was from a supplier with notoriously bad business practices and poor customer service so I've decided to stop working with them. As Pasteur's is no longer is interested in Birth of the Cool, I've combined elements of BOTC with Trail Tobacco so it'll be a hybrid. IMO, BOTC was a better tobacco scent anyways so it'll be great to have that profile as part of the main lineup.

As far as I know Macduffs_Soap_Co haven’t announced their 2024 Xmas/ seasonal releases yet? But I certainly hope Bad Santa will again be amongst them, very nice scent…

I'm giving Bad Santa the year off as I've had it in production since 2019. It'll be back next year for sure, just last year it was a little slow moving which is a sign (for me) to take a break with it. I will have a limited amount of Santa's Cheer available on my website only for those who missed out, but there will be a similar scent released this year (Gingerbread) which takes the Christmas spice element but leans into the gingerbread; Santa's Cheer leans heavily into the "cream" scent territory--and is also sweeter. Full announcement coming shortly.

Interesting development regarding BOTC and Trail Tobacco. When will that hybrid be released?

As for bay rum and seasonality, if you were being nitpicky, you might say that in the warmer months you could use a bay rum with some lime in it and in the cooler months you’d go with bay rum a bit heavier on the warming spices.  You want to be mindful of Sterling Archer’s assertion that he uses bay rum.  With lime.  Only.  Ever.  That might be okay for fictional secret agents but I wouldn’t look at it as a hard and fast rule    

Bay inspired scents would certainly give you a lot more flexibility and creative latitude as well as reducing the risk of offending the bay rum true believers.  Yes, that would include me, although I’m generally hard to offend and my response would be limited to a traverse and denial.  I’m probably most annoyed by the lazy soap makers who just take a generic bay rum blend off some generic supplier’s catalogue, combine it with some pirate themed labeling and call it bay rum, arrr. I will always respect an artisan’s actual creative efforts whether the end product appeals to me or not.  Honestly, there is a fairly broad latitude in what constitutes a true bay rum and it’s even broader when you get into bay inspired scents.  I’m looking forward to trying the results

It's unfortunate but they do shifty things like "back order" when it shows in stock on the website and you don't hear from them for literally months. Notoriously difficult to get a hold of and a terrible rating on the BBB.

It's going to have some elements of Trail Tobacco Classic, but the coffee element is much softer (my original intention anyways) and I'm using about 5 different tobacco fragrance oils whereas BOTC was only two. It'll be similar so maybe not worth owning both revised TT and BOTC unless you really want the scottie label and a hint of roasted coffee.

I have a couple of TT classic left over if you want to get some now, or obviously any stockist who has TT right now is the prior version.

I promise you no pirates (as fun as a pirate scottie would be) and it'll be loosely drawing inspiration from mountain lakes. I don't want to say too much, mostly because I haven't finalized the scent! And generic artisan's aside I know there are those out there that truly love and understand the scent and I know I wouldn't be able to do better than that, so that route doesn't interest me. Instead I'll try and put my own twist on it so at the very least it'll be unique to Macduff's, which is always my goal.
