Lisa's New Artisan Soap

I got my soap in the mail late last week  - naturally I had to order four instead of one.  Somali Rose, Doc Holiday, Gentleman's Lavender and Amber & Tobacco.  I used Somali Rose yesterday and its very nice.  An improvement on her earlier shaving soap and although very good I'm not putting it into my top tier yet but its pretty darn close.  

Of the four soaps the one I'm a little disappointed in is the scent of Amber & Tobacco - its just a slightly lighter scented version of Mickey Lee Soap Works Jurate and Soap Commander Fortitude.  I guess I'm just a sucker for the descriptions the artisans use to describe the same scent.  Its not a bad scent but just been done too much.  The Gentleman's Lavender is a reasonably strong, garden variety lavender scent.  If you like lavender you'll like this one.

Next up will be Doc Holiday.

Just checked the website, the Coconut Oud is back in stock - the only ones sold out now are Doc Holiday and Gentelman's Lavender. I think she restocks regularly.

I just bought & received a tub of Tashmere which is very different as regards scent, but the beeswax scent is strong on this one. It's described as "Orange, Black Pepper, Amber, Sandalwood, Oud, Geranium." It does "drink" water and is very slick. Beyond that I offer no further opinion until more usage. I will add however that I was not as "wowed" as when I first used A&E or DG's Icarus soaps, but that could change. We shall see.

I should have added "beeswax type" scent to the above post. It may be the geranium for all I know as I am not a florist. Having used this soap more I will now call it a top tier for sure. Great lather and slickness off the charts. I will not "bloom" it in the future as it doesn't need it. As a note, for some final buffing I "J hooked" my jawlines using a Schick adj. injector with this soap and a Schick Pro-Line B20 blade that has at least 10 shaves on it and the resultant ATG was absolutely without a stutter. Flawless. Color me impressed as that's a real test of software/hardware in my book. Just to add that the scent on mine is very...…...different.

I know, I usually place the lid of the soap so I can see it while I'm shaving at least if its got decent artwork - partly to remind me what I'm using (age?) These labels kind of creep me out so they go top down.

Agreed labels are pretty bad. However, after using it today I have to say this is a top notch soap. Produces decent lather, is really thirsty (i think i rewet my brush tips 5-6 times during the face lather), really good glide/protection, and the smell is strong like I prefer. The soap on the face feels a bit cool. I wouldn't say the post shave feels like A&E or WK but it is good.

I shaved with the Doc Holiday. I will try out the other one I ordered (Florida Freeze) in a week or so.

FWIW, I see she is having a 30% off sale on her new artisan shave soap line 11/10 - 11/16 for those who are interested. I have no stake in the co. nor even know her so have no fear of "shilling". I am merely passing along a "heads up" as like you I appreciate a good deal as well.

Received a couple of her soaps yesterday, Amber & Tobacco and Haute Leather. Nice packaging, nice tubs that are sealed and poured nicely and evenly. The scents are nice, not too strong out of the tubs with plenty of room to swirl and load your soap

First up was Haute Leather and though subtle from the tub it actually picked up and became more pronounced as I began building the lather. This soap just loves to have water added to it as it just builds a smooth creaminess with a rich lather that is moist and dense. Takes a bit more time to build up an amazing lather, a la Shannon’s, GD and B&M. But it’s definitely worth the extra minute to take it to where you want it to be. I like rich, creamy and dense lather with some moisture. I’m not a big fan of fluffy or airy lather.

Full bodied texture and just wonderful peaks to it. The leather with the hand lotion like scent and earthy undertones really give it a nice aroma that is both subtle and smooth. Yet it lingers nicely in the room as you work and paint the lather on. Post shave attributes are up there with some of the elite in leaving the skin hydrated, soft and supple.

The accolades and praise is very well warranted. Excellent performance, smooth and soft scents that are pleasing (Haute Leather so far) and competitive price point. Yes, it’s my first time with this artisan but, when you know how to build lather and the consistency you like and then give it a go, you just know. It’s not rocket science here. You know good soap when you feel it. Lisa’s is a top performer in my book....

Another excellent performer in the LNHC Amber & Tobacco. I’m truly taken aback by this soaps ability to take water and just continue to build with the shortest amount of load time. Perhaps a 10-15 second load of the brush and maybe a minute and a half of just adding a few drops of water at a time. The lather is luscious, dense and very well hydrated. I could have added a bit more of water and I think it would have just kept going on building.

The final look. It’s just a superb soap. I really don’t know how there are reviews out there that say the soap is not as good as the elite soaps in the business and that it leaves a lot to be desired. Loves water, builds lather like some of the best I’ve tried which includes Grooming Dept., Wholly Kaw, Declaration Grooming, Panna Crema, WSP, LPL, Shannon’s, Barrister & Mann and a few others that I can’t recall at the moment. Another thing is the post shave attributes that I get from it is on par, if not better than the ones I’ve just mentioned. Just an excellent soap that checks all the boxes for me. I know, everyone is different when it comes to what is best for them. We all have specific individual needs and tendencies that are unique to every one of us. Whether it be skin sensitivities, water hardness and ease of building a lather, which I believe is a key factor on why some individuals give up on a soap. It’s to hard, or it doesn’t build enough lather for me, used different brushes and it won’t work or whatever the reason, some have patience and some don’t. A shame really as I’ve heard individuals say even the more established or better known soap makers like those mentioned above won’t work for them either.

I know this. LNHC is the real deal. It covers the spectrum from soup to nuts on all fronts from lather, glide, protection, slickness, cushion and residual slickness. Scents are very subjective as everyone’s nose is different. Some love, some hate. Can’t do anything about that as for some the scent of a soap is part of the deal and experience in getting a great shave. So far, the scents have been great for me as well as for the Misses. In conclusion, at least for me, it takes a spot among the elite in the artisan soap makers world in my den. No questions asked.....
