You should see the looks I always get when doing this.
That thought has crossed my mind a time or two when enjoying your SOTD - you know the line you see in the news when something weird goes down? The subject was known to police...

I've thought about a lightbox on many occasions.
However, I seem to do ok with the simple, inexpensive setup of....a sheet of white (or whatever color you wish to use) Bristol board, that can be bought from the dollar store for 50c a sheet, here in Canada.
I find the key aspect to be good lighting.
Indoors, I'll use a daylight lamp or my wife's LED selfie lamp..
The main reason why I've been hesitant to get a lightbox, is because I enjoy the odd outdoor shot as well; which brings variety to the gallery.
Also, unless your going for one of the extra large boxes, that cost around $200, the available space reads as being very limited; restricting you to, pretty much, a shot of everything packed closely together.
Here's one of the boxes that I've kept in my wishlist...

Here's a quick 'before and after' example of my typical set up with a sheet of Bristol board...
The 3rd one uses one of the Instagram filters. I actually prefer the 2nd one, as it looks more natural, less saturated.
Tip: if you like the ig filters, you can use it without your data turned on, and the edited photo will be saved to your memory card.
