Last shave with the Atelier Durdan Le Maurice razor, 1.20 brass. Shipping it out tomorrow to ALI Review coming soon. I need to gather my thoughts. Lovely 3 pass bbs shave this evening.

I really enjoyed my time with these razors. Thank you to Atelier DURDAN and DFS for the passaround.

Some thoughts:

  • Craftmanship is excellent.
  • Razor design is right up my alley.
  • Every shave I had with the three plates were very good. Minimal irritation. (as confirmed by alum test). Very close shaves. Easy to shave against the grain, a litmus test for me. Additionally, the razor head is slim enough to shave under the nose.
  • Of the 3 plates, I liked them all, but if I had to pick one it would probably be the 0.8 gap. I will likely buy that configuration.
  • One comment that others have commented on as well is that I prefer to load the blades on the top cap as opposed to the base plate. I believe this feature is being updated. But not a big deal, the shave will be the same.
  • The wooden box was also cool but I don't really value packaging too much (just my personal opinion); if it is expensive to make such a well crafted box, I'd rather have a cheap packaging (so long as it protects the razor during shipping) if it reduces the cost of the razor.

Again thank you to Atelier DURDAN for the excellent razor.

Razor is cleaned and safely packaged and will be off to wyze0ne first thing Monday morning.

Package received from ALI. First shave in the morning. I think I'll start with the 0.80 and work my way up from there.

As I said yesterday, I decided to start with the 0.80 Ti head and had a wonderful shave with it this morning. I found it to be smooth, comfortable, and efficient as any good razor should be. The tolerance/fit and finish are excellent as well. I'm not sure if it does anything better than my current rotation covers, but still a nice razor nonetheless. The dual comb format isn't really my thing, but with this one I barely noticed a difference between the sides. Maybe a touch more blade feel with OC. I'll use the 1.00 SS tomorrow. I'm curious to see if the balance will feel off with heavier head and lighter titanium handle.

Second go with Le Maurice, this time with the 1.00 SS head. To be completely honest I did not notice much difference between this and the 0.80 Ti. It delivered the same smooth, comfortable and efficient shave. I think this design is focused on comfort which is great. No alum burn whatsoever after the last two shaves. I guess if I truly wanted to test and compare with my other razors I would keep all of the other variables the same, but what's the fun in that? I'm just enjoying the shaves. I did notice this set up to be slightly biased towards the head in terms of weight but it didn't affect the shave at all. I might toy around with some different handles with these in the next couple of days though. On to the 1.20 brass head tomorrow.

Another excellent shave with Le Maurice! This time with the 1.20 brass head. I didn't mention it before but I've been using an Astra SP blade, this being the third shave on it. They are my usual every day, go-to blade so I always use them in a new to me razor as a baseline. Once again smooth, comfortable, and efficient. Where the 0.80 and 1.00 felt very much the same to me, this 1.20 did exhibit a little bit more blade feel and a slight bump in efficiency as well. Still very comfortable. At no point did it feel aggressive at all. Impressive! If I were to purchase this razor I would have a hard time choosing which one to go with.

Two pictures above: Is the perspective warped or does that head not sit straight on the handle?
