Arrived today.  Shave tonight with the 1.20 plate. I’m going to compare to the blutt 1.20 and Wolfman 1.20 I own. If this one can hang with those two you’re in world class territory.

Two shaves in. First was 1.2 followed by the 1 plate. Next is the .8 plate tonight and the razor is on its way tomorrow. Some of my notes

The head seems extremely well engineered and fabricated. The fit of the baseplate to the topcap is tight and exact. Lots of nice attention to detail including the topcap chamfer, Corner miter at the guard, And smooth rounded teeth for the oc. The handle is not well-developed but since it is titanium the light weight was adequate for grip. I’m thinking most of the energy went into the shave. The fit into the stand was snug. This is a nice bonus as a lot of razors struggle with this.

One change I would suggest is putting the posts on the topcap. When it’s on the baseplate it requires two hands to align the topcap thread while maintaining blade alignment.

Also the bronze is not an alloy like the Athena so it is extremely susceptible to patina. Similar to timeless bronze. I gave it a nice polish in my previous photos and it looks great.  I personally do not mind razor maintenance.

In comparison to the Blutt 1.2 and wr2 1.2 I put this shave right in the middle in terms of efficiency. I did not enjoy the OC, but this is because I do not enjoy OC on any razor including the high end stuff.  The sb was plenty efficient with no risk of cuts.

I was really surprised by the 1 plate.  I found it more efficient than my gen2 .99 Blutt while being equally comfortable. More blade feel but it felt equally safe with and against the grain. Incredible shave that exceeded my expectation.

I’m thinking the .8 will be too mild for my personal preference but I will give it a go.  When the handles get an update I will be picking up the 1 plate for sure. Lots of good handle inspiration in the wetshaving world. Blutt, Wolfman, timeless, H&S are making my favorite handles.

Thanks to Cornbread for this great feedback.

I take this opportunity to inform you that following the breakage of the Cornbread box lid.
The packaging was a little light so I will improve all that.
So Dave in KY will receive another box identical to this one.

When you compare it favourably to the Blutt, does that include blade clamping, in which the Blutt is arguably the #1?

Based on the pics alone it seems to have excellent clamping, so I'm curious how it compares to the Blutt.

Blutt feels extra comfortable compared to all razors because of the blade clamping in combination with a low blade exposure. Similar to a low gap WR2. The Maurice, as far as my eye can tell, clamps the blade same as Blutt. I have no science to back this up. There are two continuous flat surfaces as the blade overhangs. I imagine the exposure is slightly higher than the Blutt which ups the efficiency even at the same gap. If the handle had a little more finesse I could replace the .99 Blutt with this razor. But the gen 2 Blutt has killer aesthetics and weight. I wouldn’t replace the 1.2 but that’s only because the 1.2 Maurice is at the upper end of my efficiency preference.

That's high praise indeed, as the Blutt 0.86 is one of my grails, I simply haven't pulled the trigger yet.
Looking forward to the 0.80 plate review.

Atelier DURDAN : The only remaining questions are:
- When will it be available for sale?
- What's the expected retail price?

What do you mean when you say it takes two hands to align? Is it not possible to throw the blade on, followed by the cap, then turn upsidedown to accept the handle? I assume this design choice is, at least partially, driven by cost to machine.

Can you post a pic with the blade in so we can see exposure?

Of course, and it’s exactly how I put it together. But unless you drop the cap with 0mm precision you will need to wiggle it to align all 3 posts to the respective holes. It’s an unnecessary task and it will scuff the razor over time.

+ 1 for Cornbread on top plate pins as well as handles (but I also like the Carbon R2)

The info you are looking for can be found on the first page, post #17 I believe.
