Hi Zack…hope all is well!

Nope…I haven’t done that in quite some time.

As for the dimples, before I get in the shower, I open the jar, and put two drops in each spot where you see a dimple. It softens that circle of area within the large soap circle. As I build lather on the brush, those spots turn to indentations.

As I go along, the most luxurious and beautifully concentrated lather forms in the little indentations on the soap surface.

Once I have loaded the brush, and made that concentrated lather on top of the puck, I set the brush aside, wet my face, and get the lather left on the soap with my fingers. I use that to build the initial lather on my face, and add a little water with my hands to get a really really slick and hydrated base. Then I proceed to face lather with the brush, which quickly turns to painting strokes…add water…painting strokes…etc etc until it’s perfect.

Is sounds harder than it is…actually it’s super simple and highly effective in making some of the best lathers I have experienced.

Ols67 Matt, really nice response, the details are appreciated. I really like your process. The photos above show a really nice way to get that lather built. I can't remember if I've asked this a thread or not but when I used MDC years and years ago, it was not a hard soap. It was firmer than an Italian soft soap for example, but I could still press into the surface of the MDC puck and dent it. I always see people called MDC triple milled which I find interesting. My understanding is that is was getting cured for 4-6months after making and before selling to the customers.

Anyways, the thing I noticed is that after loading the puck of MDC, that high coconut oil formula seemed to really soak up moisture quickly and that it really did seem to benefit from letting it air out with the lid off. If I remember, maybe that is something suggested on the included info card when you buy the soap. Enough rambling about soap for tonight. Chat soon and happy latherings shave fam
