Wally’s pictures are much better than mine, but here is my initial impression of the Ares Ti:
I had the privilege of being able to purchase one of the recently released Ares v2 Titanium razors. It arrived over the weekend while I was on a business trip. This past Sunday, therefore, was the first day I was able to use it. Open comb razors are usually not my preference. I prefer mild flat bar razors. I, however, took a chance on the Ares Ti based upon my enjoyment of the Ares v2 Bronze. And, I am definitely glad that I did.
The razor is phenomenal!!! It is gorgeous, just see Wally’s pictures. That should not surprise anyone.
Lambda_Razorssimply makes two of the best looking modern razors. The polished titanium is truly stunning and brings the Ares to another level. Ares always looked like a work of art…even more so in titanium.
The weight and balance feels perfect to me. Being lighter titanium, the razor is extremely agile. Despite the lighter weight, I did not need to exert any pressure during my shaves. It glided across my face while easily mowing down over two days worth of stubble without needing to apply a little pressure. I used my favorite blade, AccuThrive, for the first shave.
To my surprise, the best angle was slightly different than the angle I use for the Ares Bronze. Instead of a steep angle I use for Ares Bronze, a more traditional angle felt best to me for Ares Ti. I also had more feeling and feedback with the Ares Ti. My initial thought was that the razor might be more aggressive in titanium. Not so. I had absolutely no irritation or redness. It was just a marvelous shave. The titanium simply felt softer and smoother on my skin.
I used the razor again yesterday with an AccuThrive blade—2 days straight. I wanted to see how Ares Ti performed when I only had light stubble. This is where I usually rely upon very mild razors. I again had an excellent shave. The Ares Ti easily removed the stubble without any irritation or other issues including no redness. Despite having only light stubble, I had excellent feedback and feel. I clearly knew it was going its job.
I was asked about whether I experienced any slipping. I had none. The weight is perfectly balanced and the razor does not slide at all in my hand. When I did the final rinse yesterday, I noticed that I had a decent amount of lather in the grooves of the handle. Despite lather clearing sliding down the handle during my shave, the razor remained secured in my hand with no slipping the entire shave. Anybody who has slipping concerns should strongly consider the Ti.
I had high hopes for the Ares Ti, and my initial shaves exceeded all expectations. Based upon reviews of others of the Athena Ti, both Lambda‘s titanium razors are exceptional shavers. I am extremely happy that I own this magnificent razor. I highly recommend it if you are considering a new razor. I also, as always, look forward to Wally’s review.
