He should be raising his prices and I think they can go a lot further if the razor continues to gain attention. If you search on YouTube there are still very few Lamdba razor reviews that are not from local users in Greece, so Lambda is just starting to take off and you’re getting in very early even with a $40 hike.
How much do you think that mahogany box ought to sell for if it was a separate product? And then how much is left for this superb razor within his current pricing?
Not saying it isn't worth more but be honest.....If you see them for $187 and then you go to buy and they are $229 it is a disappointment regardless. If you don't agree, feel free to take a match and light a couple 20 dollar bills on fire
I agree and I would say we don't really want to encourage people raising their prices because something is popular. If this razor really is as quality as you all say it is you should be applauding the maker for providing an inexpensive quality product not begging them to raise the price so you can resell it for a profit in 6 months.
They also cant raise the price much on this razor or this batch will be the only one that sells, or it will only sell to Lambda enthusiasts. Once things start getting into the above 200$ range your getting close to the cost of some really quality stainless and titanium razors, that are long established and very open about their manufacturing processes.
I don’t think it is because something is popular, necessarily - that may apply to Wolfman but I think there are not many in this industry who can charge a premium because of their name. Everyone else has to charge in line with the market, based on how their product compares in quality. And some - like Athena - have to charge well below the market value because they are not yet known. I think it’s pretty clear that the Athena is priced well below the market price for a razor (and box) with this level of design refinement and finish quality, and the manufacturer will not yet be making a meaningful return on his time and financial investment.
Theodoros is making something really good. Maybe some are misunderstanding how cheaply he is selling this razor because the mahogany box is included and other manufacturers sell only the razor. If you consider just the razor, for comparability, I guess it is selling for around €100 - for a razor that is probably the most innovatively designed on the market today, shaves as well as any high-end razor, and has a level of quality and refinement in finishing that matches any razor that doesn’t have an extreme mirror polish.
How can we be quibbling about possibly $20 here or there for a razor that is so much better value than anything else? If we really like the product let’s pay the guy fairly for his work and his skill. I think this razor has a long way to go before it reaches a price that is comparable to the market.
The only established razor I can think of that shaves as good as this and is still priced low is the Karve Overlander. But the Overlander probably still sells for more and is nowhere near the level of finishing that this razor has, let alone the level of design and innovation of the Athena.
