Lambda Athena Razor by Theodoros in Greece

Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.

I saw some quality issues on the one in the picture where for sale and was concerned about what I now call the "Murat Effect" and so decided to not buy it myself. I hope all that receive one are totally happy with their purchase.

Was it $210 from The Razor Company? I think that’s what I saw somebody post somewhere, but I can’t find the razor on The Razor Company’s site. That’s the same as the price direct from Lambda, shipped to US, I think.

It will be nice to hear more opinions if some of the razors went to members here. They sold out very fast but it is still quite an unknown brand and the reviews so far are only from a few of us who’ve tried the Athena.

They probably all went to shave forum members then, as you would have to know about it and when the razor was going to appear on the site to get one.

I hope people like them as much as I did mine. It’s always risky to recommend something when buyers may have very different preferences and shaving styles. I still think the shave has much in common with the Karve Overlander but has some unique, clever design elements and is in a different league for finish and presentation compared to the Overlander.

I think you are right that forum members got all, or at least almost all of them.  I knew the drop time, but I had already signed up for email notification, and my email was timestamped one minute after the drop, at 12:01PM.  With hindsight, that does not surprise me.  Jason probably figured, correctly, on a stampede of forum shavers, and he likely did everyone a favor by not making the stampede any bigger. 

It's easy for me to see why the Athena sold out so fast, but I passed for now.  Down the road may be a different story some day.  Meanwhile, I hope the lucky buyers are thoroughly satisfied with their Athenas.

I've been using the Athena for a few says now. So far I gotta say I love it. I've been taking a break from straights and aggressive razors and this thing is just perfect for me. It's mild but still efficient, easy to find the sweet spot, and beautiful. Let's face it, you gotta like the looks to truly love your razor regardless how superficial that is. And the side grooves to clear the lather are genius. This one is on loan but I will definitely be buying one.

The Lambda Athena is an amazingly good razor. Theodoros worked some crazy magic engineering on this razor. I use almost exclusively more aggressive razors, and when I first came across the Athena, I was drawn by the looks but bought it expecting it to be a shelf queen. The specifications absolutely do NOT justify the way the razor actually shaves. 

It is incredibly efficient, despite the low gap, you have a decent blade feel (when shaving riding the guard), and the handle is incredibly ergonomic despite it's art decor looks. The flat portions on the handle line up perfectly with the finger placement when shaving, and the matted surface on the flat area serves as excellent grips. The rest of the handle and cap are polished to a mirror finish and stays blemish/patina free after many months of use.  

It tackles not only daily shaves, but also mows through longer whiskers without hesitation. The cutting capability of this razor is right up there with the best slants (yes I know this is NOT a slant) and yet remains gentle enough on the skin for daily use, and still gives good blade feel. Thank you Theodoros for this wonderful contribution to the shaving world... now, please please please, do let me know (I bug you on a quarterly basis I know) when the Ares is being re-released. I am looking forward to having another of your marvelous razors in my den.

Does anyone know what is recommended for cleaning any tarnishing? A friend used alcohol to disinfect and left the cap dull and streaked.

Theo gives maintenance instructions in the letter that he sends with the razor. It says to use a small amount of toothpaste mixed with water, apply it by hand to cover the razor surfaces, leave for 5-10 minutes, then rinse with water.

I’m no expert but what I’ve used before is ketchup, which removes most of the patina, and then rub with a jeweller’s cloth to remove any remaining patina and make it perfect again.
