G'day DFS,

Has anybody tried the La Savonnière du Moulin 'donkey milk' shaving soap as the US call this the 'Ass Milk', I'm told the lather is incredible very rich and creamy, the slickness is somewhere between fantastic and great and the post shave feel somewhere fantastic which I'm unable to prove. This soap comes in a 100g size hard puck see picture below and comes in two different scent, normal and unscented shaving soap and they last a very long time because I'm thinking about buying some in my Den.

SdM is nothing special imo. I found it somewhat average in use and drying in post shave and overpriced. It was all the rage summer of 2015 and hyped, imo, by the vendor owned forum that sells it.

Over 40 available at Maggards right now languishing. I rarely, if ever, hear it mentioned anymore.

I agree with vtmax. It is nothing special. Had some and sold it on BST.

Splendid lather in my book, though I too found it a tad drying. I got two pucks back in June of 2015, so I was all over the above cited hype, but I have actually finished one of them, so that says something. Mine were bought directly from France, and from of a "faulty" batch in which both mother and son Laurence and Mathieu apparently had added donkey milk without the other knowing, resulting in a total milk percentage of 40 as opposed to the planned 20 or 30. On that note, would be interesting to try out the ones with less milk to see if there's a difference. There was only a very lightly scented one available at the time: hints of mint, rosemary, lavender, and honey.

In terms of milky shave soaps, I'd rather go with Haslinger Schafsmilch, cheaper and better. Pots of Milk from Meissner Tremonia is also good, but more expensive than Haslinger.

I went ahead and bought it from the English Shaving Company in UK for 99p International shipping delivered to Australia, I had to choose two soaps so I don't have to pay full shipping cost for one soap I'm looking forward to have a crack at this donkey milk shaving soap soon.

I found it to be an excellent soap in all respects save scent.

But it fits nicely in an Old Spice mug Smile

I liked the scent and performance during the shave, but agree with vtmax on the post shave. Very drying.

I think it is a really good soap (I did not use the term "very good") but not a great soap. In addition, it is expensive costing from $7 to $10 per ounce. When it first arrived there was a lot of hype just like all the other new products we are now seeing. There too many good artisan soaps out there which perform great and are not overly priced .
