My only affiliation of the following product and company is as a full retail buyer of their product. Other than that I'm not connected to them in any way. When something is good I believe in letting folks know about it and when something is the pits I let folks know about that too.

I'm not much of a coffee drinker. In the AM I have a hot mug of faux Joe roasted grain beverage with half and half and half (Ha Ha! 1 1/2! Too funny. I'm leaving it.) and monk fruit extract to sweeten it. But every once in a while I want a pick me up during the day and that's when I want some caffeine. I recently discovered Ki Tu Super Coffee. They might have different flavors, but I have the mocha. It's clearly a keto beverage with 2 grams of net carbs and I have to tell you, it's absolutely delicious. It has MCT oil, 10 grams of protein, and did I mention delicious? Oh, and 200mg of caffeine.

Today I'm making another loaf of the King Arthur Flour low carb bread and I'm waiting for it to rise. Today in an effort to give it more flavor I used a bottle of wheat lager beer* as the liquid and 18 drops of wheat bread flavor from 1 on 1 flavors. It's the first time I've used this particular flavor... fingers crossed. Maybe I should have warmed the beer, it's taking forever to rise.

*Yes, I'm aware that it's giving it more carbs. But I sliced it extremely thin and got 19 slices and 2 ends that went to the dogs. The bread is good. What's a beer? 70 carbs? Lets use 100 carbs, and 20 slices. That's 5 carbs per slice and we're on the high side of the estimate. More than I would like but it's one way to give flavor to it. It's still a work in progress.

Happy Independence Day everybody! We have a Republic if we can keep it!

Another loaf of bread is in the works, rising as I type.

One thing I miss is dessert. I admit it I have a sweet tooth. I discovered Atkins "Endulge" bars. The tart lemon and strawberry cheesecake are delicious. I have more to try. Dessert is back on the menu.

Ice cream has been on the menu for quite some time. (Enlightened Keto ice cream)

The Endulge peanut butter cups (Think Reeses) are quite passable.

There are other reasons to put oneself into ketosis, as we've already discussed. It's not just for weight loss. BTW, congrats on the weight loss!

I wish I wasn't so comfortable in ketosis today. I'd like to lose another 30 # but I'm where I am and if I'm losing, doing it very slowly after dropping 35#.

I've found the medical establishment to be woefully uneducated regarding ketosis, so asking them is to roll the die. I had one nurse tell me that ketoacidosis was very dangerous. That's absolutely correct, it just isn't ketosis. My own PCP asked me how I knew I was in ketosis when he had my labs right in front of him. But I keep him because he knows things I don't and will answer my questions. I know things that he doesn't to guide my healthcare on the direction that I want it to go.

No one cares more about my health more than I do, but maybe not everyone is capable of assuming the role of caregiver of ones self. I ask my PCP to Rx tests that I want to monitor my condition and when I do he thinks it's a good idea. He's not stupid, it's just the McDonalds of drive through health. They do the best they can, but the system today sux.

I've been eating carbs like crazy (aka, not keto)...and my gut size has taken on a life of its own.
I will be getting back into eating keto and fasting soon, and I'll keep this thread in the loop on my progress.

(And I second the statement above, that keto is not only for weight loss. It is THE diet for NATURAL health. It's the diet that humans evolved eating, so it is 100% natural and familiar to our bodies. I don't want to rant, but this is so obvious. Carbs are rarely available in nature (pre agriculture they were only available at harvest for a few weeks), so eating carbs year-round wasn't possible during our evolution.)

Btw, contrary to popular misconception, keto is NOT about eating lots of fat... it's primarily about eating very little carbs and a moderate amount of protein (that's the focus)... just add fat if needed to help you from getting hungry too soon (aka, you can fast longer). Keto is 100% ALL ABOUT KEEPING INSULIN DOWN. High insulin is the cause of 99% of our health issues.

It makes sense, and it works. There are millions of success stories on YouTube videos and the comments.

Majority of doctors don't like keto because either they're ignorant to facts, or they've seen the facts and realize they won't be pushing you prescription$$$$$$$$.

The problems with carbs is that they're inexpensive and addictive. They're also poison. The video didn't state that, but they are.

We need some carbs since the brain needs sugar to function, and greens provide that amount. For those who don't know, carbs are turned into sugar in the body. That bagel you had for breakfast? It was like hitting the sugar bowl as far as your blood sugar level was concerned.

I don't know if I mentioned this and I'm not going to go back to check. I was prediabetic. That disappeared. My brain works better now. There are things I can do with it today that gave me trouble previous to going into ketosis. I thought it was old age, but it was just diet.

I think Dr's have been taught garbage, some rise above and some drank all their Kool-Aid. The medical schools were started by the pharmaceutical companies, so they have a vested interest in teaching Rxs. The FDA food pyramid is all wrong, but the brainwashing tells people, Dr's included, that that's "the way to eat" and it's a political food pyramid, nothing more. I could write so much more, but I won't. In short, the FDA is political and nothing they say should be noted or followed. They can no longer be trusted. Politics and the FDA shouldn't be intertwined and today they are one. They have a great deal of blood on their hands for giving out political advice and not doing their jobs.

Agree, the brain is the only part of the body that requires "sugar", but you don't even need to EAT any sugar/carbs... the body will make its own, via the process gluconeogenesis... check that out.

Thanks for making me think. Sure, there has to be a mechanism for it otherwise the folks in the German concentration camps would have all been dead long before we liberated them. Their bodies had been self feeding off of their protein (muscles) for quite some time and yet they were still alive and not eating any or many carbs at all.
