Ok, first shave in with the D plate and I'll start off by echoing everyone else's thoughts that this is a beautiful, well made razor. I love the look and feeling in the hand. It has a very nice heft to it, but the balance seems to be biased a little towards the handle. I'm thinking maybe I should've opted for the 3" instead of the 3.5", but I don't like very short handles. Anyway, so I loaded up a fresh Polsilver and discovered that the tolerances are spot on. No fiddling with the blade at all and the handle screws on smooth as butter. Very nice! From the first stroke I didn't get the super smoothness everyone is talking about. Today though I blame that on my lather, not the razor. I had too much water in the brush from the get go so it was a little thin. I went back to load more soap, but it didn't fully recover. I was a little pressed for time so I just went with it. I did 2 passes WTG/XTG with some touch ups and the result was a very close, comfortable DFS. I can't imagine wanting more blade gap and it was forgiving and efficient enough for me so I think I made the right choice with the D plate. It has just enough blade feel which I like without ever feeling aggressive. Overall first impression is that I really like it and am looking forward to getting some more shaves in with better quality lather. I've always wanted a nice hefty brass razor and this fits the bill nicely without breaking the bank. Definitely a keeper!

Nice Jeff!  The D plate is a great daily shaver. I think the optimal handle, balance wise, is the 3 inch. It does take some getting used to as most handles today are longer but it makes for a nimble shave. It’s neat how well a blade locks in. Happy2

I also had my first shave today. I bought the 3.5" as well, and immediately wondered if I should have gotten the 3",but I like my Slim's 3.25" handle.

I prefer my Slim set to 6 for the first pass and 5 for the next pass. With help from folks here, I decided to get the A, B, and C plates.

First spin was with the B plate. All I can say is Wow! Close, smooth, and comfortable! I couldn't ask for a better shave. But I will! Eventually I will try C, but for now, I think I got a winner!

Thanks again for the great info and reviews, and helpful comparisons to vintage Gillette razors and the Rockwell, those really helped me determine the best plates for me!

Hope, I can add my 0.02 Smile

Today I have received Karve razor with D, E, F plates. I bought this razor upon enthusiastic reviews of my friends (especially vtmax , thank you my friend) here. Now, after first shave can only say, WOW. I was impressed so much only after first shave with my Wolfman or Tradere OC 1 gen. I was waiting for this razor approx month but it worth it. I appreciate Chris name on packing (it is not anonymous) as well as "personal" thanks. I think we are with Chris "friends" now and I really want to support his business. Razor itself is technically great, piece of art. I can feel Chris is focused on details and he really loves his works. I loaded plate "D" first and it was like silk. Actually I thought, it can´t be efficient (of course, I was wrong) and loaded plate "F". Plate "D" is great daily shaver for me. I am not interested in plate "C" and milder, just due to my personal preferences. Plate "F" is considerably more aggressive, but I don´t think plate "F" gives me closer shave than plate "D" and be sure, plate "F" is not overly aggressive. For those who like Muhle R41 2011 or iKon Tech will be even "F" plate too mild …Happy Daily shaver is "D" , but when I skip one or more day I will use "F" plate with pleasure and I am sure it gives me great, irritation free shave. One of best razors what I tried.
My bad is, I chosen 4 inch handle. To this razor fits much more better 3 or if you like longer handles or you have bigger hands 3,5 inch handles. Razor is better balanced with shorter handles. Metal smell of this razor is very little. I noticed after first use some sign of use. I don´t know why, but on baseplate are now more darker spots. When I consider reasonable buying price, it is one of best razors on market. Looking forward to buy Karve razor in SS and Ti. It could be then (IMHO or for me) best razor on market. This short review is based on only one shave and in future can vary, but I think, it could be even better.

In addition to its outstanding shaving properties the Karve is exceptionally photogenic Smile

Great Petr! Glad it went so well on the first shave.

Your comment above is perfect. I know I will use the D plate more as it was built for daily shaves and F for 'skip' days as you said. The 3 inch handle shines with this razor. It looks small but it's the perfect length and fits the hand like a glove.

Amazing razor my friend and thanks to Alex above...a beauty! Happy2

My go-to shaver is the Rockwell 6S... do you guys think the Rockwell #5 plate is pretty close to the Karve D plate?

Thanks in advance

I think in smoothness is "D" like plate #4, in efficiency something between #4 and #5. Rockwell #5 is overall more similar to plate "E".

First shave with the C plate and the 3" handle. It did a great job on 30 hours of growth, very comfortable! The shorter handle is exactly what I needed. A big Thank You to "NH wet shaver" for the trade!
