A few years ago I swore off any blades but the proguard-style in my Feather or Kai shavettes. Recently, though, while feeling daring and wanting to check my technique, I shaved with a Feather Pro, a Feather Super, and a Schick Proline. The Schick is easily the best of the three for me. Smooth and sharp. The Feathers aren't really in the same league. Kudos to Bullgoose for carrying them.

Today, though, a new Feather Artist Club arrived with the scales. I've used only Kamisori-style shavers. I loaded a fresh Kai Titan with Guard and had one of the best, most relaxing shaves and it's BBS after three passes. The blade felt great. There are times when I want to test my chops (no pun intended) and one of the unguarded blades is the ticket. But I think I'll use them mostly in the ATT SE-1. The shaves with the guarded blades are just spectacular.

Now I'm sure this has been asked before, but does anyone prefer the Kai with Guard over the Feather Proguard or vice-versa?

Update: 9/4/2019 I took the Kai Captain Titan Protouch (the blade with the guard) and a Feather folding Artist Club with me for a trip over the long weekend. I had some of the best shaves of my life. BBS and comfortable. Not a single weeper. I just shaved again as I have an early start tomorrow. I used the Feather Pro Super. A few weepers, nothing fierce, but not nearly as comfortable.

Moral: at least for me, the Kai Protouch and the Feather Proguard provide BBS shaves. The blades without the guard add a significant degree of difficulty but they don't increase the quality of the shave. The Schick is the smoothest of the blades w/o guards. I'll still use them from time to time when I want to check my skills or my face is craving an adventure, but for a superb bbs shave I'll stick to the guards.

I just had my 9th shave out of the Kai Protouch and it was still BBS. I tend to buy Kai over Feather. The Kai Titan Mild and Protouch MG are my two most used SE blades. With all that said, the Feather Proguard does give me an equally good shave compared to the Protouch. Can't really feel much difference between the two except that the Protouch seems to last forever.

Thanks for that info.

By the way, if ever I get the urge for another straight razor, I'll be buying from you!
