I realize I am really having trouble figuring out the right shaving angle on this. It is really irritating my skin and I am barely using any pressure. I thought people said this is a very mild razor? I have shaved with a Muhle R41 without irritating my skin!

I checked to make sure the head was screwed on all the way (it was) and found the real culprit. The top cap is bent up on one side making the blade crooked and loose. Check out the photo. Worst shave ever. Stuff happens with suppliers, so I am not bashing Phoenix. Just a word of warning to check the less expensive razors for consistent blade gap and exposure before shaving with them. I usually do, but didn't this time and got burned -- literally.

Good glory!!! You're lucky all you got was a nick and not a cut, ala stitches.  Looks like someone ran over that with a skid loader.   That's pretty poor quality control right there.  You should get a new razor shipped on them obviously and a free tub of soap and aftershave for the nick and inconvenience.

Phoenix handled it very well. Very quick response and I had a replacement head in 2 days with a couple of AS samples.

I got this sweet little British Made GEM repatriated from Australia:

The keen-eyed amongst you will notice that the blade, too, is a British Made GEM.

Schick "Spotless" Glasgow Injector Razor.

Came in a neat bakelite box and has a black bakelite handle. I think it's an E2 type. Cleaned up very nicely and has the spring can be moved to the left to open the razor for cleaning. Stamped "Made in USA"

I've injected a fresh modern US blade into it and will give it run in a day or so.

I wonder who James McLean was ...

I have found a Bookmaker of that name who was known to give out plush gifts to his clients. Here's a fountain pen, for example: http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/...clean-ltd/ ... not a great leap sideways to think the fellow might give out razors, too.

I think that is the fellow. Here's an advertisement mentioning the word "Spotless". Same chap:

Clearly his clients were not that valued or he would have given them a 1912 Big Grin

Interesting read about McLean. Explains how "spotless" was a pun on the not-too-clean business of bookmaking at that time.
