Woo-hoo! First of the 2022 Acquisitions.
SWMBO spotted this hand-thrown earthenware vintage-style scuttle in the Salvation Army Thrift Store today, for $8.
It's a bit wobbly in shape, and it's much larger than my dainty vintage porcelain heirloom scuttle, but it does the job. I'll be more inclined to use it, I think.
The larger dimensions of the bottom opening seems more suited to the larger knots of modern brushes, and I'll worry less about breaking it.
The bottom is rough and unglazed, so I have to use a silicone rubber pad to protect the sink when I use it.
Well, here's Nancy herself, (from her website):
She doesn't currently list scuttles in her product line, so maybe it was a prototype or a one-off bespoke piece.

Hi John. Here is what I use. I trace the base of the item, then try my best to cut it out smaller! It has an adhesive side. It really cuts down on the noise, too, as the bathroom is en suite, and I am less likely to wake up my wife by banging around in the morning.

I go the low tech route when using bowls or scuttles, which is all the time- I just use a facecloth folded in half and in half again. So quarter fold. Does the job, absorbs water and gets thrown in the wash regularly.

I use the red pad for other things too, so it's going to stay the shape it is.
In this situation it keeps the razor from scratching the sink.
Note the lather bowl floating in the sink. This is how I use it 95% of the time.
It keeps lather and brush nice and warm, like a giant modern scuttle.
