The end result this may very be that there is a grandchild ... and the parents never let him / her see the grandparents.

Where the bride's family has to pay a hefty ransom of sorts – in cash, jewellery, new vehicles etc
to secure the groom's commitment to marriage. Or the marriage could get called off in the presence
of the invited guests!

Not prevalent across the board, but certainly among lesser educated and open-minded sections of society.

That is one weird story but then, I don’t understand the culture. That said, suits between family members? Come on man! (Says the guy with 15 grands and counting).
