We’re seeing the same kind of soap ‘elevation’ now with Valobra, which is good, but was never that popular until it was supposedly discontinued.

It wasn’t even that popular for about 9 months after it was discontinued. I was always a fan of it, so when I made an Amazon order, I’d throw in a puck or two and occasionally a pot. Initially the refill pucks were $19 and the pots about $35-40, and right before the existing stock on Amazon was depleted, refills were about $25 and the pots about $45-55. I only bought a couple of pucks at $25, the rest were lower.

I always kind of compared to Czech and Speake, both high end Italian soaps with fancy pots. C&S refills are about $35 and the machined bowls with soap about $140 though I doubt the IC pot would bring that much but who knows.

That pot is not a simple thing by the way, the inside of the bottom has a high fired gloss (like glass) surface while the outside of the pot has a matte finish that resists water. I don’t know if it’s a coating or a fired glaze. The top is uncoated terra cotta, at least on the inside, probably to wick moisture as unglazed terra cotta does.

The Rhubarb cream has the same scent as does the Rhubarb balm, and they made a bath soap with the same fragrance - you can still find 100g pucks of the bath soap. The larger bath soap came in a terra cotta dish.

Here’s a little eye candy for the fans of discontinued Italian soaps and creams.

Cheers, Steve

I was never a fan of ABC soaps but loved I Coloniali since the first time I used it. The rhubarb cream is great as well but nothing compares to the Mango hard soap.

No flex. I use this stuff a lot, I am not a hoarder as such. I bought the last 3 pucks of ABC hard at Maggards and a few others for peanuts off the BSTs No one wanted them, or IC.

Lol, ABC, SMN, IC, they’re losers, trust me, buy artisan (so the prices of the classics will go down).

Buy Artisan! Lol.

I Coloniali, Santa Maria Novella....seems like you and I have similar taste in soaps. ABC, however I have not had the pleasure. Tell me more about this one. I have a hunch that it’s been discontinued. Can it still be found?

SMN and I Coloniali are amazing soaps with a great scent. In my opinion ABC is just glorified cella in hard puck form. Lather is okay and post-shave is very average
