Ok so it seems I may have to look into a balm to use after the alum bar. I'm pretty sure I'm not using pressure, because the 34c is heavy as it is. The lather I feel I'm still doing right. I do circles on the soap until I get a good fluffy white morang with peaks. When I apply it on my face I do a light circle motion to get it on my face then dip lightly in the mug of water as needed. I finish off doing painting strokes. When it's all done I have a slick thick white layer of soap on my face. When I shave the razor seems to glide without a problem.
As from the advice above, I may just do 2 passes on my neck (grain and against) while keeping 3 on the face. The neck area under my chin is what gave me the issue when I did a side pass on the left and right.
Also I tried the Nick Shaves technique. When he finishes shaving, he rubs the soap on his face and feels around for rough areas and does a razor touch up. I'm thinking this may have also caused some additional irritation.
