So i recently bought a Vie-Long 12705. i really like the brush, but the problem is that thing keeps tangling. ive taken a comb to it, but i dont want to have to do that after every shave. what do you all think?

Make sure you don't swirl the brush. Paint it on your face. It takes a lighter touch to get them to work well. I still will use a comb periodicaly with my horses.

I have an Epsilon LE brown horse hair in bulb. It was and is my first and only horsehair brush and I was nervous about the tangling as well. Never had an issue with it and haven't had to treat it any differently than other natural brushes but it is also very dense and appears to have both a shorter loft and larger knot than your brush (26mm x 50mm) which may help.

If having issues I do agree with jankdc that more painting strokes as well as combing out may be the solution. I would also likely ensure that I was focused on using the tips more and not a ton of splay.

Best of luck!

I too have the Epsilon but in white. I use it 90% of the time and have not had issues with tangling and have not brushed it but may do so soon just for the maintenance.

I have had several horse brushes including an epsilon. The epsilon behaves differently because of it's short loft. The other two (one I still have) are more prone to tangling. I haven't used a Zenith yet, but I designed them to have a shorter loft to prevent tangling.

Theoretically, horse would be one brush that I would consider trimming. The hair is cut from the horses, so that trimming the brush would restart/extend the break in process, but wouldn't trash a brush like badger or boar.

I have been using a new 12705 for past week. I swirl all the way during load and face lather. What I was advised, and have observed this advisement, to not splaying it as much as I do my synthetics or boars. I have been getting great lathers from it. Not as nice as my synthetics, but nice enough that it is in my rotation. I will probably do a comb through at some regular interval for maintenance, but currently not seeing a huge need.

This is a great brush. I would definitely consider another horse hair in the future.

I have a Vie Long horse hair brush.

Even though I haven't used it as much as my other brushed, I have not had any issues with tangling as of yet. I probably used it around 15 times total.

Tangling is not an issue, but the smell....that is another story.
