O.K., apologies for asking a question that is likely old territory, won't cover new ground, but after reading this entire thread a few days ago, I came away with the general sense that the Taiga is a smooth version of the REX Ambassador.  Is my take generally correct?

It wasn't a nearly long enough trial, but a friend of a friend let me use his Ambassador for 3 shaves a few months ago.  As someone who values smoothness above all else, I just couldn't get that bad boy to work for me and I really am not willing to spend $250 to give it another long term shot.  It's a shame, because REX from design and build standpoint is totally my jam.  That handle knurling is the best I've ever used.

I just registered at the Homelike website and was going to impulse purchase a polished .69 Start razor, but they are out of stock.  It made me focus once again on my obsession with adjustables...

I have both START and Rex Ambassador and also tried the Taiga prototype. For my sensitive skin Rex is as good as Timeless Ti and is very smooth but while was very happy with some blades, GSB, Astra SS, PolSilver for example, I was not happy with 7 o'clock SharpEdge yellow even on very low settings. But Taiga prototype used on lowest setting only gave me satisfaction while using 7 o'clock SharpEdge and Astra SP blade was my favorite of the 4 shaves. So getting a proper combination of the blade and setting is important. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Taiga prototype lowest setting is the same as the START .69 but it is .50 on final version. I well understand that it's hard to convince yourself spending so much money that is why I had a trial so I can be sure that it will work for me. Unfortunately sometimes you need more time to since you need to try many different blades, you should never expect that if the blade is working well with your other razors it will work as well with the new one. Also the blade you don't like with other razors may end up being the best with the new one

Is it possible that the dial/ring of the Taiga changed from pre production model (Gibbs like dial) to a much wider version in final version?

Just got the prototype and I am highly impressed with the build quality. Just shaved this morning so I will shave with it New Years Day and then send it back out Thursday. Who’s next on the list?[Image: ccecc6af494329f82a85064d7ce11b14.jpg][Image: 50a364ae53ceccd4867acfc7443015ae.jpg]

Oh man... It looks so awesome. I've placed one in my shopping cart the last two days but just can't pull the trigger... $270 is a hefty investment when I already have such great stuff so far . Knowing me I probably won't be able to hold out...

It seems to be built like a tank! Hope instructions come with it for dis assembly to change out plates and the handle. I did order the titanium handle with it. Mine order shipped today. Already loving the feel of this razor and the adjustment is super smooth. I love the length of the handle as I prefer longer handles. I will takes some pics of it with the new Rocnel Sailor, Rex and B&R Adjustable.

Yep, came with 3 packs of blades and those 2 bottles of aftershave (I think). Won’t even open those.
