I own v 1.  I really disliked v 2.  The only improvement was the longer handle - but the handle seemed to be not finished.  v 1 reminds me of a fly fishing reel which is consistent with Montana.  v 2 only has one void and the feels and finish is not as good.  v 2 the balance point seemed off.  Some of the machining stops about 2/3 the way down the handle with v 2. The angle of the blade is not set in the shave position - the v 2 spring needs to be activated and the spring can catch debris.  v 1 has a magnetic mechanism that has less resistance and better feel.   The v 2 stand does not use magnetic attraction and the fit and finish is not as well done.  Best and only use may be for head shaves imo.  Face shaves v 2 did not give good angle adjustment.  Even with the swiping action below the nose like the Leaf the head size and geometry it is not well designed for under the nose as Dave from Kentucky points out.  The magnets on v 1 are a little too weak; v 2 a little too strong.  Thanks to High Proof and Andrew for putting on the pass around.  v 2 is not for me.

The Proof just arrived! I'll be shaving my head and face with it tomorrow.

I had a pretty nice first shave with the Proof razor yesterday. As a bit of background, I shave my head and face about three times a week. I prefer efficient DE razors, and my current favorite is the Yates 921-EH. I tried the Leaf a while back and didn't like it at all.

I loaded the Proof with half of a Personna lab blue, and I shaved three days' worth of growth from my head and face. It took a few minutes for me to get used to the angle and pressure needed. The shave was very comfortable and "safe" feeling. Since I'm used to efficient razors, this shave was a little slower than usual for me. Even though I had to do quite a bit of cleanup, I didn't feel like I'd get any irritation from over shaving with the Proof. The end result was better than I expected, although it wasn't quite as close as I typically get from my usual DE safety razors.

I loaded the Proof with half of a Feather blade today in an attempt to dial up the efficiency a bit. This shave was not as comfortable as my previous shave with a Personna. The head shave felt good, but a few blemishes on my face turned into weepers.

If someone is looking for a cartridge replacement that can give carefree shaves, then I think this razor would be a great option. Personally, I prefer the added control and efficiency of non-pivoting SE and DE safety razors.

I am not part of the pass around. I purchased this High Proof razor myself. I will point out that one of my favorite razors is the OneBlade. The HP razor reminds me a lot of the OneBlade. Today was my 4th or 5th time using the razor. I am daily 3 pass face shaver and use the High Proof like I would use a cartridge razor. This morning's shave was a near perfect drama free shave. I really can't ask for more on a work morning. Overall I am pleased with the razor.

I received it in yesterday's mail and used it for this morning's shave.  But instead of just breaking a blade in half and proceeding, I first broke a shim in half and installed both halves, and half a Feather blade on top of that.

With 3 thicknesses of blades (2 shims and 1 cutting), the magnets held fast and the razor gave me an acceptable one pass shave with touch ups.

For my next shave (on Friday) I'm going to use both halves of the same Feather blade, stacked together on top of the same 2 shims, for a total of 4 blades (2 cutting on top of 2 shims).

I used a Feather blade, MWF soap, and a small Simpsons brush.  That's all for now.  See you in a few.

how was the flow through of the lather/hair with the shims? That was a complaint I had when using the razor to shave my head - I wish the flow through was a little better.

I received the package from draebeard today, and barring the unforeseen, I will shave with the razor tomorrow.

With hindsight, tonight's shave was not a fair test of the razor.  I have been under the weather and pretty low energy all week, and with several days of beard growth, it became clear during the first pass that the shave was going nowhere with the High Proof.  Inasmuch as I am a member of the One Blade Genesis Fan minority, I had already prepped my Genesis and finished the shave with it.  I decided to start fresh in a day - two at the most - and see how things go using the High Proof in daily driver mode.

I still have a few observations to offer, although perhaps not much new.  First, blade insertion was effortless for me.  Blade removal from a dry razor was easy too, but not so easy when the razor is wet.  However, in fairness to the High Proof, I should point out that my hands don't work as well as they used to.  I have more to say, but I am going to hold off until after the next shave
