High end razors not used as much

I will blatantly commit heresy and defy any "high end" razor to beat the shave I got this morning from my Gillette Fusion. Probably not the most entertaining or pleasant one, but quick, smooth, super close, safe and efficient. Then, I've read guys who are honest enough to admit their mistakes how they went back to the 89 head after trying a few >200$ razors and reached my own conclusions involving marketing, hype and whatnot.

The good thing of a free market is that we can choose, and then there are different strokes for different folks. Me, I am certain that no titanium or unobtanium razor or brush will enter my cabinet, provided that I get excellent shaves from a boar brush and a 40$ razor, or a cartridge razor. But I do feel happy for those who enjoy them and have found their perfect shaves with them. I did already find mine.

Personally, I for one have never stated that modern multi-blade razors cannot work & work well for many. However, the downside (besides the cost) for me at least was ingrown hairs beginning when I switched to the Atra from the Trac II circa 1980. That made my shaving life (and face) miserable. I have found a better and easier road to travel and have no intention of going back.

No such problems for me, and getting 8 to 10 shaves out of a Fusion cart, cost is assumable. I do use others, though. My Mach 3, Contour and Sensor are also in my rotation along with my Edwin Jagger, Merkur 37C and Maggard OC, all have a place in my shaves. But if you found what works for you, great . The meaning of this is that it is possible to find what works best for you without spending that much.

Really? . I wonder how could anyone assess what an excellent shave is for someone else. Please, educate me.

I didn't find cartridge shaves to be bad, just boring beyond my tolerance and expensive. The expense was my breaking point. They simply wanted far too many $ for the chore. It was neither fun nor enjoyable. Now it is both and inexpensive as well. My razors no longer clog and the cart's ALWAYS did. I always had to slam them onto the edge of the sink to dislodge the cutoffs and lather. That mostly didn't work. So what I was left was with a shaving method that didn't work, was boring, just a chore, and expensive. Is it any wonder that I searched for other ways to remove my facial growth?

I don't know if I can beat your shave but I will say that the Gillette Mach 3 that i used to use never gave me a shave as nice and close as the Wolfman WR1. Now I'll admit that its not an apples to apples comparison because back when I was using the mach 3 I did a one pass shave (plus touchup) even after I started using brush and soap instead of canned foam so I don't know how it would compare if I did a three pass shave with the mach 3. And I don't plan to find out either.

I don't know if I can beat your shave but I will say that the Gillette Mach 3 that i used to use never gave me a shave as nice and close as the Wolfman WR1. Now I'll admit that its not an apples to apples comparison because back when I was using the mach 3 I did a one pass shave (plus touchup) even after I started using brush and soap instead of canned foam so I don't know how it would compare if I did a three pass shave with the mach 3. And I don't plan to find out either.

Well... You could be quite surprised. The soap and the brush make a BIG difference, but the technique makes THE difference. A proper three pass shave, with good soap, and the technique that classic DE razors have taught us and when you're done, you might look at that Mach 3 with different eyes as I did. I agree that they're boring, expensive and soulless, but they are efficient. Indeed they are.

And yes, I did miss the -very- fine print . I hope @wizeOne bears in mind that a lot us surf from Android devices with smaller screens and have aging eyesights, next time he does a trick like that .

You make very good points - I think a large part of the crappy cartridge shaves we all used to get is that we had lousy technique. Virtually no prep, splash of water, shot of foam and a quick single pass of the razor rinse and splash on some aftershave and we wondered why we had bad shaves. Yes, the DE experience has certainly developed our technique hasn't it? I've told a few friends who are reluctant to try the DE shave that they could dramatically improve their daily shave by just upgrading to decent soap and a brush and doing a second pass or even a third. Some guys won't change though, its like they enjoy complaining about their crappy shave. You can only try.

I figured you missed it - it was hard to see on my laptop so I could imagine on a handheld device it would have been almost invisible.
