High end razors not used as much

I use my timeless, wolfman guerrilla, charcoal goods lvl 3(i have both finishes), and my merkur futur regularly.

Although I favour my GEMs I would suggest that you start with a Schick Injector - the cheapest one you can find in good condition. If it is used and  there is a blade in it do not use that blade. That applies to all used razors.  Dunk it in alcohol for a few minutes then with a cartridge which you can buy in most drug stores or the internet, insert a new blade. Then a quick alcohol dunk and a rinse in water to remove any  material that might have been loosened when you pushed out the old blade.    Enjoy...

As the owner of a few old injector razors it is plain to see that it is indeed the better "mousetrap" and if it had had the "Big Money" behind it Gillette would be but a memory in history. The blades being more rigid due to thickness coupled with a far more nubile & maneuverable head make it the better shaver.

The Blackland Sabre L2 has pretty much ruined me on using any other razors. I've been using it exclusively for months now and it's the first GEM razor I've used. Really awesome.

I have just gone through this entire thread.

I have never before realized how very lucky we shavers are to have such a wide selection of excellent equipment from which we may chose.

There is something for every taste and bank account no matter how (Looking for the right, inoffensive word.) --- unusual and / or demanding we might be.

I am off to let my treasure trickle through my fingers.

So true. Be it a Palmolive stick with an old razor or a boutique razor costing $300 coupled with artisan soaps all just want a......................Damn Fine Shave.

I remember looking at the Schick Injectors, and DE's back in the early eighties when they were hanging on the rack next to the Gillettes. I alway's went with the newer Gillette which at that time was the Atra. Probably due to their advertising at the time, always thought Gillette was a little better even though I had never tried the Schick's. They were after all the best a man could get. That's what the ad said on television. I don't remember seeing too many Schick ad's.

Since I don't own any high end razors, yes, I don't reach for them. Years ago I realized my shaves just couldn't get any better, so I stopped my search for shave nirvana. The last razor I bought was a '13 Muhle R41. As many here know I pretty much use SE razors exclusively now. I love the my R41s ('10 & '13) but I can't remember the last time I used one.

I don't dump on the modern razor manufacturers, because I think it's a good thing that they exist. They're probably better made than the vintage ones.

Brian, it looks like you have discovered the key to happiness. Wanting what you have and being satisfied with that instead of chasing what you don't have and in many cases can't get. Reminds me of an exchange between 2 of the characters on a children's cartoon called Veggie Tales that we used to show the kids sometimes. The one fellow (a tomato as I recall) asks the other fellow (a cucumber) "Gee Larry, how much stuff do you need before you'll be happy?" Larry replies "I don't know Bob, how much stuff is there?" Therein lies the problem with trying to find happiness through material things. Its endless.

Enough sermonizing

I used the Wolfman WR1 today specifically because of this thread and no, I do not use it enough. Its beautiful and very efficient and aggressive. It does a wonderful job but there are some days where I just don't want to have to focus quite that hard - I mean sure, shaving requires focus but I can have an excellent shave with a Rockwell 6s on #3 with a Feather blade and I'm a bit more relaxed about it. Its probably all in my head but a moment's inattention with the Wolfman and there will be blood. The Rockwell is more forgiving at the lower plates. Plate #6 is very close to the Wolfman shave for me. At the end of the day, If the Rockwell 6s had been the first razor I ever bought it could very well have been the last one too.

I think maybe the injector razors didn’t catch on because of the injector cartridges the blades come in. Seems a big waste if they aren’t reloadable.
