jsanchez bakerbarber Freddy @Bruce

Thanks guys! This will be a great starting point, though it's late so I'll take closer looks in the morning lol But the Goulet site looks promising and they have a single pen case that's cheap as well Smile

I'll take a look over everything in greater detail tomorrow and let you know what I decided on! Big Grin

Sorry for the double post, but I made my order! Smile

Pilot Varsity Fountain Pen - Black, Medium
Platinum Preppy Fountain Pen - Black, Fine

Both of these were under $5 so I can practice with them and I won't feel bad if something stupid happens... which it will Tongue

Aston Leather Single Slip Pen Pouch - Black

Under $15, and I can use it to carry the pen to work, and if I don't use it for pens... I'll find something else to put in it, like a razor or something lol

Pilot Metropolitan Fountain Pen - Black Crocodile, Fine
Pilot Namiki Black (Cartridges)

Freddy I went with your advice on the Metropolitan, looks good and a decent price!

Of course all the prices are in USD and I have to pay in CAD so... Dodgy But I'll take it for now and see what comes from it once they arrive Smile

Thanks again guys for all your help Big Grin

Shawn, let us know how you get on with them and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.  We'll do our best to help.  Just as with wet shaving, we fountain pen users tend to be an opinionated bunch.  (Us?  Never! Rolleyes )

And Congratulations. Happy2

Everything finally came in!

And I got a sucker! :O Normally I don't eat candy I didn't order in the mail, but... I do love those things... Character Tongue

Anyway, I'll start with the cheaper ones of course before inking up the Metropolitan. I normally write with a decent amount of pressure so I should probably try and work that habit out first lol

I'll put an update up in the coming days Smile

That's a fine start, Shawn.  You are absolutely correct about the lighter touch but that should come easier than you might think.  Also, remember, the more fountain pen friendly the writing paper, the better the result.

As for the Tootsie Pop, the Goulet Pen Co. is known for them.  Enjoy. Smile

Shawn,

I can't speak highly enough of Jinhao pens. They were the first brand I bought after getting into fountain pens here a year ago or so. Of course with anything YMMV and these pens can become as addicting as shave gear. I actually prefer the Jinhao to the Pilot Metropolitan. I have about 8 different Jinaho pens a year later as well as some pens that are 10-20 times more expensive. However, I find myself in the office using the Jinhao pens more than any other. I can tell you, that your hand writing will improve vastly if you like fountain pens because you will write with them often, and practice makes a ton of difference. I have made a habit of writing a different friend a hand written letter the last year every week without fail. My mother who can attest to my poor handwriting prior, has commented several times at how "great" my handwriting has become. Hopefully, you enjoy the pen game. For what they cost, get a Jinhao and give it a go.

I buy the Pilot Varsity pens by the box.

I prefer blue ink, but I suspect the people who 'borrow' them from my desk don't mind whatever color they are. I love being able to tell someone to keep it when they comment how much they like it after using one to jot down a note.

I bought a variety pack once with several different colors and gave the one with purple ink to our receptionist. She loved it. I had to help her find them online so she could buy more when the first one ran dry.

Bakerbarber and I did the same thing.

I bought three Pilot Varsity pens. Of those I gave the purple ink pen to my cousin Paula and the black ink pen to my cousin Diane. I kept the one with blue ink.

Then I bought three more of these pens.
