Today, the challenge.

For the first time, my champion is in trouble.
In the sense that it finds an opponent at his height.
Both for effectiveness and above all for comfort.

After the proper apprenticeship, Henson Shaving AL13 is easy and precise.
I prefer it for the fun coloring, and the greater lightness.
But these details don't affect the final result.
In that they are equal.

The cold numbers say the PP1489, in Maggard's original version with V3, is cheaper.
And not a little, given that in practice the price is half compared to the challenger.
Indeed in the simplest version (V3 Chrome on MR14), it is well under half.
Not to mention the easy availability, unlike the challenger.
So in the end, better value for money.

Moving on to a more complex and subjective concept, I'm not sure of the relative value.
Different in everything, both in materials and finishes and in concept and philosophy.
In this I believe that Henson Shaving is superior, because of innovation.
But I would have chosen to facilitate the user with the changes already suggested.

For these last two details, I consider the champion superior.
Which continues to be undefeated, but this time ... by a hair !!!

Or maybe both I guess...
Thx

My understanding, based on discussion with Henson, is that the two baseplates (i.e. mild and medium) are not interchangeable with each other.

They also confirmed that they do not sell individual baseplates at the current time, only complete razors.
Cheers, thank you.
And that's interesting, because I guess that means its a different top cap being used for the men's and women's razors.

That's what they've told me. They are effectively two different razors, with, I believe, only the handle being interchangeable .

I'd like to see this in stainless steel. I'm partially tempted to try this even in aluminum, but I know it's too light for my tastes.

I too would love either SS or Titanium. The Henson is a great design, exceptionally well made and gives a great shave. My only dislike is it being made in aluminum, so I look forward to their next step.

Why do I keep reaching for this $50 aluminum razor when I have $500 titanium razors

I'm sure you have a really 'sweet reason' for doing it. Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.

I've been using the Henson regularly as well. It's both smooth and efficient. Not that I don't have my issues with it, like any other Razor. Still, it's a great entry at a wonderful price.

I have been using a Maggards 3.25" handle, because I hate long handles. I now am obsessed with inspecting the threads, worried it'll get damaged (steel on aluminum). Hopefully they release a smaller handle for it.

I would buy the Hensen if it came with a 3”- 3.25” handle. When I see those looong handles I think they are for women to shave their legs and so they can reach down to shave around their ankles.

Another great shave with the Hensen regardless of it's handle length. If you know how to shave the handle length shouldn't matter more than a preference in my opinion. Bonus is I can shave my ankles too. Big Grin
