Hendrix Classics Shave Soap & Fragrances

My sample just arrived to Greece. Barbershop scent is spot on, similar to Mike's, Shannon's and Chiseled Face's Ghost Town, which I like a lot..
The Jimmy Hendrix stamp was a nice touch!

Hi Pete. Just letting you know that the generous sample you mailed Aug 22nd arrived safely here in Canada yesterday.

I transferred it (and the Hendrix sticker) to an empty tub this morning. After scraping up the (very tiny bit of) residual soap that had been left on the paper and smooshing it back into the sample proper and pressing the whole thing flat into the bottom of my tub, I intended to rinse my fingers off. But as soon as I got my fingertips wet, I noticed how super slick they were. So I rubbed my hands together a bit and then rubbed it onto my already wetted face. Then I grabbed my brush, cleaned off my hands with its bristles, and worked up a very nice face lather. Adding a few drips of water, I soon had enough lather to do a great 2-pass shave. So yes, I used your soap today but I haven't actually touched my brush to the sample itself yet!

I have to say I have used a lot of different soaps and the post-shave face feel from this is excellent. I've been faceturbating all morning. And I haven't done that for a while, so that's saying something! Will provide more feedback once I've used it properly for a few days.

Thanks again though for the sample. I had heard of Music City Suds before - I came across them a year or so back - and I put their "Tennessee Whisker" sassafras-scented shaving on my (far too long) wish list.

Just finished shaving with a tiny part of the generous sample that I received a couple of days ago. In the past few years I learned that my first impression is the one that usually turns out to be the final one too. So my first impression after a three-pass shave with the Hendrix Classics & Co. soap - WOW, OMG, etc, etc, etc... I am not prone to exaggeration though...

Almost everything with this soap worked perfectly for me: from loading to lathering to lather amount and longevity to slickness, protection, glide and post-shave skin feel. The scent is fresh, potent, and pleasant, but it is unfortunately not in my wheelhouse. I prefer scents that have some vetiver, smoke, leather, and oud. Should Pete decide to make something along these lines I would certainly be there to get a couple of tubs.

All in all this soap is top notch and I am going to be closely following the Hendrix Classics & Co. news!

I received my sample yesterday. I have to say it smells really really good. I haven't tried it yet but will provide some feedback when I get the chance.

I got around to actually shaving with my sample of Hendrix Classics & Co. soap today. I had done a palm lather when I first received the sample a couple of weeks ago and it lathered up real nice. I found the scent to be a familiar barbershop scent and I mentioned to Pete that he could tweak it to make it more distinctive - twisted barber I realized when I read a comment above that its similar to Ghost Town Barber which is a nice soap too.

I set up with a little soap in a Captain's Choice lather bowl and used a brand new Simpson's Persian Jar 2 best badger - badger funk very prominent . Notwithstanding that, it lathered up real nice. I applied and went to work with a Rockwell 6s #4 with a Polsilver SI (2d use). This is a nice soap, slick enough, and plenty smooth, I got a 3 pass shave and felt great. No nicks or weepers or any irritation. Real nice post shave face feel. This soap is up there man, it would have a place in my rotation for sure. Good job Pete

I really appreciate all the feedback. I might tweak the scent a little. Creating great scent that lasts over time is hard. For that reason, a lot of soap makers buy scent that has been professionally blended and formulated, which is the case with the Barbershop scent I've used. I don't have the other brands that the scent on mine was compared to, though suspect we all used the same source.

Having said all of that, tweaking can be carefully done.

Sorry for the delay, just got around to trying the sample. I think it's fantastic! Nice basic scent, lathers easily, got a really nice, close, irritation free shave, washed out of the brush easily,... no negatives to report! Thank you!

Hi Pete, I think having a great soap base is definitely the most important thing and yours fits the bill in that regard. I totally understand about how hard blending a great scent is - anybody who thinks its just a matter of mixing this and that EO or fragrance oils hasn't ever tried it. Its an art and its hard, if it were easy everyone would be doing it and they're not. Many artisan soap/aftershave makers use the professionally blended stuff, as a matter of fact, I think that most of them do and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Marko, yes scent can be hard. One time I put together a scent that was just the right amount sweet and tart citrus. A few months later, all the sweet was gone and the tart had undergone transformation where the biggest note reminded me of an uncleaned urinal.

I put together a bay rum scent that I really like that has stood the test of time. If I do a bay rum scent, I'll use that one.

Yeah I don't think the urinal scent will fly But I would definitely be in for a Bay Rum!
