Good afternoon all. I joined several months ago, have enjoyed lurking, but haven't posted until the past few days. I've been wetshaving for about 5 years with a mix of DEs and SEs, both new and vintage. I also started turning my own brushes and bowls several years ago as well and look forward to conversations with other turners, too.
Glad to be aboard!

Welcome aboard!

We have a lot of expert brush makers here, including Brad Sears, Trotter Handcrafts, Paladin, and Knothead Brushworks. You should be in good company!

Also heard that Smattayu got his lathe moving again. Another fine crafter to chat with.

Welcome Jason. Where is BC are you? I'm right on the other side of the border in Washington State (live in Bellingham, work in Blaine).

I'd love to talk about brush making with you sometime.

All the best,
Paul

Paul,
I'm in the East Kootenay, right next to the Rocky Mountains and near the Alberta border. I grew up a few hours north of where you are in Bellingham, though. Just north of Vancouver.

Yes, I'd love to pick your brains about brush making. I am just a hobbyist and not a professional such as yourself. I started with turning brushes, then some lather bowls, then some shaving soap bowls and some razor stands.

The pic below is what I currently have in my rotation. All of the brushes are mine, minus the commercial handles (Simpson, Omega and 400) and the two metal handles on the middle row. The razor stands are mine, including the wooden rack.

I've played around with different wood textures, wood resin mixes and pouring my own resins. I much prefer working with wood. Most of my stuff is with friends and not in the den.

I've also made quite a few shave soap bowls:

I won't dominate this 'welcome thread'...I'm sure I can find turner's threads on here as well.
PS- Yes, Dave, I know I owe you a brush!
