Hi all,

After using most of the more popular brands around, I'm thinking to try some of the small artisans out there. Did anyone have any experience using them? Just that they are not widely available, and as far as I know, they are not from the U.S. so I would need to ship them from another part of the world which might incur a high shipping costs.

Don't seem much discussion on them.

Thanks in advance.

Haven’t used either, but it looks like The Razor Company has HAGS if you wanted to order it from a US provider

Yup saw that TRC has them, but it was the vegan version. Read somewhere that they have a tallow version which I'm more incline to try.

Guess I may have to try them some other times.

Received my HAGS oblivion in the vegan base two days ago with my first time using it this morning. Smells great, a nice fresh aquatic cologne like scent. Scooped about an almond sized chunk out and pressed it into my bowl. The soap is on the firmer side. Loaded it with a damp brush. It loaded very quickly into kind of an airy lather which was concerning. I switched to palm lathering and it quickly turned into a dense creamy lather. I was impressed and surprised. It gave a great shave, was super slick, and had great post shave. Comparable to my other top soaps (tallow or vegan). The only thing I dislike is it seems like a light pour, borderline under 4 ounces. Maybe I'm just spoiled by most artisans pouring a little heavy. I weighed the tub with and without a lid on it. It was 5.64 ounces with the lid and 4.90 ounces without the lid. Hopefully it is spot on or close to 4 ounces of product because it is an expensive soap.

A typical empty jar without the lid weighs 2 oz. so it definitely looks like you got short-changed.

wyze0ne, yeah I kind of figured. The tub is different from any other soap I've owned before. Seems pretty thin, so it could be lighter than average. But even then, under half the weight of a normal jar? Seems far fetched. Bit of a bummer for a $24 soap.

A quick review of Pinnacle and HAGS soaps.

- Got 2 Pinnacles, perform relatively well, plentiful slick and protective. The scent was pretty lovely. But that's the end of the good thing as this soap burn the heck out of my face. If this Artisan works well for you, it's should be good.

- Got 1 HAGS, perform excellent - like really excellent. Good protection, slickness and post shave. The down side is his scent is a hit or miss. The first HAGS miss the scent for me, but the performance is well enough for me to want to try more from them.

I also own two Pinnacles, Pelo & Contropelo and Dali.  Like aerolord, mine perform relatively well - not the tip-top best, but better than good enough - and the scents are both quite pleasant.  OTOH I am happy to say that, unlike aerolord, I have no burn or other issues with either of them.  (Sorry about that aerolord.)

Glad that it work out for you, his scent is really the standout factor for me. I really wish I can shave with them.
