(08-06-2022, 03:18 AM)Hooman Wrote: HighSpeed  Thank you for comments on the three scents.  I think I am already sold on "Tobacco and Oud' already.  Is it fair to say that it is your favourite of of the three?
I'm juggling how best to help you both without misleading either of you.  Otherwise I would have responded sooner.  So, reemphasizing (for the benefit of casual passers by) that these are impressions off the puck, and my nose is not a bellwether, here goes ...

There is a lot going on with the scent, which complicates answering DanLaw's  question.  That said, I definitely pick up the floral accord, and even something spicy.  There is nothing that strikes me as smokey or humidor-like.  So I would go with tobacco flower.  OTOH I'm not sure I could pick out the leaf even if it were there.

I was not very subtle Hooman, was I?  Yes, the Tobacco Oud is the odds on favorite in my book, but I am very intrigued with all three titles.  In retrospect, my choice of words may have overemphasized the margin, but in my defense, I really was at a loss for words.

Finally, here are some comparisons which may help you both, and which might provide a clearer basis for comparison and constructive criticism from other shavers:

  • If I were trying to match the Tobacco Oud, Calvin Klein Pure Gold Euphoria for Men is the best choice I can think of.
  • I frequently prefer to complement a scent, rather than match it faithfully.  Bvlgari Man in Black would be my first choice for complimenting Tobacco Oud and Ralph Lauren Polo (Green) would be a somewhat distant second.

I hope that helps.
I appreciate HighSpeed's effort on the description here. The dilemma we face with Mo's soaps are they have so many notes blended in the mix - the complexity can make it difficult to separate individual notes. Moreover, add individual noses and impressions - and it becomes very subjective.

This imo, is not a tobacco dominant oud. I am a frequent cigar smoker - and tobacco for me is not in the forefront. Tobacco flower, maybe. But this is a fruity, medicinal oud - very reminiscent with YSL's original M7 created by Tom Ford. A distant cousin to TF's Oud Wood per the spicy- fruitiness present. I find this really intoxicating and rich. It is not a pipe tobacco oud, not ashy, but very rich, fruity and almost syrup like. Neroli I think cares not a whit for ouds, but this one has mass appeal. This is my third favorite of his latest release. I like the Mag & S'Wood just slightly more. Danny inquired about it having a marcescent quality - not at all. In fact the opposite for me - it presents a moist cookie like gourmand quality for me.

One last observation as made correctly by HIGHSPEED. The soap surface was quite shiny & firm, quite like a creme Brule glaze. This batch of soaps seem much firmer - to my liking for sure.

Ang, it would be a nice post to follow with, but not an exact 'dupe'.

HighSpeed and TommyCarioca, thank you guys for offering your thoughts and impression on 'Tobacco and Oud', I was a huge fan of TF's Tobacco and Oud' cologne which sadly got discontinued and I was never able to obtain one. I thought this offering from GD would be a close a match, which sounds like it is not. But it doesn't have to be an exact dupe or match of a favorite cologne to become a desirable choice. I'd agree with RayClem's view that Mohammad had recently created unique and outstanding complex scents on his own.

This was a splendid shave!  The performance was superb, and the scent was a pleasant companion throughout.  The end result?  BBS smooth, no blood, and comfortable skin.  It doesn't get any better than that.

I think you will be pleased Hooman.

I think MO builds the best scents in his pucks. Very complex & well blended. Quite an inventory. There are a few that I wish were regular offerings and stayed on the shelves so to speak.
