You've identified my primary hesitation with GD soaps -- one I share with other companies, too. I have a hard time guessing what the scent will actually be from the ingredients/description and so I often pass. Previously, I've bought some GD soaps, and then had to BST them away because of the scents; not the performance, mind you. But, then, I'm awfully spoiled. I live in New York and so I can go to Pasteur's and actually smell hundreds of soaps before pulling the trigger on any. Not every soap is there but the selection is pretty massive. Unfortunately, GD soaps rarely make it onto the shelves. In any event, today I sprang for the Mallard Coconut Rum and am very much looking forward to trying the new Mallard base!

I want to try this soap as the scent notes sound so intriguing and I'm not sure when this may pop up again. I really don't need any more shave soaps but something is telling me to strongly consider this soap. Any thoughts?
Earl Grey Gellato is actually one of my favorite GD Scents! The Earl Grey is beautiful, and then to my nose it smells exactly like a Waffle Cone. I actually doubled up on this one. Mallard to date has been my personal favorite base from GD, so I’m happy to have the opportunity to reload .

When the two new Mallard soaps arrive, I will have a total of 18 Grooming Dept soaps in my collection from various formulas produced over the past few years. Of those, 7 of the scents fall into my favorites lists. The two Mallard soaps I ordered were Earl Grey Gelato and Corretto. If both of those are as good as I hope them to be, that will mean 50% of the scents are my favorites. For my preference in scents, only one artisan has managed to exceed 50%.
All of the Mallard scents are considered Gourmand scents: scents that smell good enough to eat, or drink, although I would not recommend eating soap. Most of these scents contain scent notes which should be familiar to your nose. Thus, an analysis of the scent notes should help you decide on which you will like.
I picked Earl Grey Gelato because it contains: Bergamot, Black Tea, Lemon, Gelato, Waffle Cone. It sounds delicious. It might be better in warmer weather, but I have never adhered to seasonal scents.
I picked Corretto because it contains: Coffee, Brandy, Plum, Berries, Honey, Cacao Dust, Vanilla, Patchouli. It sounds like a great scent for a shave on a cold day.
I only ordered two soaps because I already have Mallard Amore. I want to save room to purchase a couple of special limited release soaps planned for December. However, Mallard is a superb soap, so I do not fault george1906 for ordering 5 of them.

Can't believe the original mallard chocolate is still up.
