The Coattails soap is a homage to the old Italian Almond soaps. It's not a simple almond scent though as there's so much more going on there. It almost has a vetiver feel to it to me. I get some almond, a little smoke but there's so much more there. Just beautifully done and an exceptional scent.

Scent wise the Grooming Dept soaps are never simple. For example, the Incense & Rose soap I figured it had two fragrances Incense and Rose. Nope, Mohammad told me there are something like 72 different fragrances that make up that scent. That's how Coattails is. It's deep and rich and complex while still not being overly complex. It smells simple but it has a depth and richness to the scent. Certainly not boring or synthetic smelling but a great extremely well done scent.

Something that you could happily wear as a high end cologne. I'd definitely recommend it.

Thank you sir! I'm sold. I often find myself wanting more complex and well rounded scents now whereas when I first started this hobby, I was going for the more simpler and/or cologne type scents.

Well it's simple for me, I'm going to try and get coattails but knowing it has Almond I'm gonna pray it doesn't smell anything like Marzipan!

What will Soap and Laundry smell like? Anyone have a clue? Are we talking Ivory soap and Tide?

I really hope Laundry doesn't smell like heavy detergent or dryer sheets

I was wondering this too. Wouldn't it be easier to just say "unscented"?
I'll be passing on the next Coattails. I didn't like it at all the first time around and sold it as soon as I opened the box. YMMV and all that.

If it's anything like the original, it's not one you want to miss!

Just before Mohammad decided to cease forum interaction, he posted about Coattails Redux and mentioned that it will have the same list of notes, but will have a different scent because of the ratios and how the notes will be applied.....or something to that effect.

I'll see if I can hunt it down.
EDIT:

Actually, it's also mentioned on the actual page for the soap....

I am actually really excited about Laundry and Soap. I love soapy scents. Even better with GD performance.

I guess Mo’s email this morning answered all my questions:

Greetings,

I’m pleased to announce the release of these 3 soaps. All 3 soaps are limited numbered editions. As you know limited edition soaps don’t return!

Soap is the first Janus vegan release! This base will wow and amaze you Smile You know I love tallow, but I also love a challenge. The first vegan base I released in 2017 was considered by many just as good as any tallow soap. Janus Vegan is greatly better. A very thirsty soap which produces dense shiny lather. It has a phenomenal post shave feel too. The scent is inspired by various department store Fougères colognes I like. The scent strength is lower than typical Grooming Dept scents.

Laundry: Don’t you wish you could smell a detergent that doesn’t smell synthetic. This one is light delicate Muguet, green, cedar/pine with hints fresh air. The scent strength is lower than typical Grooming Dept scents.

Coattails Redux: The first soap in the Lusso base was Coattails. The original Coattails scent is minimal, I used few fragrance ingredients to construct the scent. I designed the scent so detecting single notes is not obvious. Coattails Redux scent is made up of the same fragrance ingredients but using different ratios. The scent emphasizes saffron which smells leathery but more natural, the Haitian vetiver is stronger which makes the scent smokier, greener and brighter. The Oud accord changed to create a lighter woody note. The scent strength is typical Grooming Dept scent strength.

Best,
Mohammad Abed.
