Gents,

This 8/8 near wedge Silverloaf had a dull heel, so I fixed it...and in the process, I had to give it some gnarly hone wear.  Setting the bevel 100% right took me two hours spread across two honing sessions, but right is right, and I was not going to accept anything less.

Here is what the razor looked like brand new with a nearly invisible bevel near the edge, but with a dull heel:

Here is what it looks like now with what I believe is a SLAMMING edge:

That is my phone camera/light in the mirror bevel near the edge!  I am going to shave test this Saturday morning.

Does anyone else have some pictures of gnarly hone wear that they are proud to have put on their razor in pursuit of perfection?

Gents,

Forgot to post the pics of the wear on the other side of the blade face.

The edge on the razor now is fantastic!  I shave tested it last night...though there were two things that made the shave less than spectacular:

1.  I face lathered with a Chubby 3 Manchurian, and while it’s a great bowl latherer, it is too prickly for face lathering.

2.  I just prefer a full hollow ground over a near wedge.

Tough to argue with the overall results though!

I know nothing about straight razors but that thing looks sweet!

Thanks Andrew!  It was good shaver before the hone wear...now it’s great...with the battle scars!

Wow - it seems like they didn’t do a thorough job grinding to me.

I would completely agree with your observation.  When I first bought it, I didn’t even know enough to know that it wasn’t done properly.  Live and learn!
