Gillette Slim or Fatboy Adjustable Clones

The REX adjustable (Razor Emporium stainless) is an excellent shaver. There is an extensive thread somewhere here on DFS. It's a new razor and some have found scattered quality issues, but the company has excellent customer service and has been taking care of everything AFAIK. I have one and it is fabulous.

Wow looks good, although not a butterfly style looks impressive

I'll just tell you right now: You aren't going to find one as good as the original. You might as well buy one near mint or buy a user grade and get it replated. There is a reason the originals have lasted 50-60 years. They were built back when things were built to last. Even the new rockwell will eventually break down 10+ years from now because of the parts used. No different than anything else you buy now honestly. We have become a throw away society. It's called planned obsolescence........and corporations know you will just buy a new (Insert object here) instead of trying to fix the old one. Because it costs 70% of the price of a new (Insert object here) to fix it. It sucks, but it is what it is.

I'm sure the OP has his reasons for not wanting vintage, whatever they might be. Yeah I'd just buy a minty Gillette if that configuration appealed to me. Personally I find the whole butterfly razor thing an unnecessary gimmick that just adds complexity, something else to go wrong. I've had a bunch that were in some way misaligned and it annoyed the hell out of me. The Gibbs/Apollo/Merkur designs I think are great, much simpler, easy to maintain, and for me easier to live with.

I saw the video on the REX razor and I am sold on it more than the butterfly models.

I agree that I don’t think we will see a razor of gillette quality at the price you can get them for - in original condition or reconditioned.

If you were to mill Parts (whereas gillette stamped Parts) for a modern Fatboy, expect the price tag to be north of $500.

That said, TTO was originally done by gillette to aid in blade changing so you could use / buy more blades. It has nothing to do with shave performance and does add complexity and more things to go wrong (our shop fixed dozens of these wrongs every week)

While I like the Parker variant adjustable,
I prefer the Rockwell 6c
I tried out the ^s and it wasn't as smooth plus it was as heavy as a tank.
I bought into the Rockwell model T and am waiting for it to show up when I get back home.

If NOS is OK, the Russian "Consul" razor might do the trick. They are occasionally offered for sale online.

@ age 64 can't justify $250+ for a clone of Dad's $2 razor. The REX is an excellent. damn fine DE piece don't get me wrong, but come on.
Forgive me but in 2019 I expected there must be a chinese knockoff somewhere for $20 bucks.
